  1. Ouch - that must've reeeeeally hurt. Mind you, there were people outside the fence during the RIAT at RAF Fairford (getting a free airshow) a few years back who were proposing to sue the RAF after the Vulcan demonstrated it's short take-off capability (basically brakes on, full throttle, brakes off) right at the very end of the runway where they were stood. The fact that the police had already warned them twice and moved them on once had nothing to do with it.

    Camera Woes...

OK Gec, I've got a replacement on order, it should be here tomorrow - as long as that's OK and doesn't show any problems with the camera we'll come to an arrangement. Jabo
  3. Hmmm, That certainly came to nothing and much as I would love the Burmese Spitfires to be true (60 'new' Mk II's? Yippee!) I fear he's wasiting his money - and made our PM look a bit of a twerp. Again.

    Camera Woes...

True, except for two points. 1 - I can't use the macro mode (which is probably more often than not) cos that locks the focal length at 300mm and 2 - I'm not sure I trust it now. In any case, the lens is about 7-8 years old and has been well used, so for £100ish I've had my money's worth.

No, that's no good. I guess this lens is scrap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Right chaps, as a relative of one of the 55,573 Bomber Command aircrew killed during the war, it is possible I may be able to get tickets to the unveiling event itself. IF that is the case and IF I can get more than 1, who would want to go? I need to know ASAP, as allocations could be made any day now. Jabo
  7. OK, this thread has become a little surreal. Anyhoo, Mick, I think Mrs P. must be a remarkably tolerant (or should that be understanding) woman. RAF standard on the ceiling? Love it. Jabo

    Camera Woes...

Thanks for these. I've just realised I have a can of contact cleaner in the toolbox. I'll give that a try. Jabo

    Camera Woes...

It appears I have a problem with my EOS 350D (apart from the fact it's a Canon that is). I've fallen foul of the 'Err 99' fault which, after some diagnosis, seems to refer to a problem with my Tamron 70-300mm zoom lens. Basically when the lens is at it's maximum focal length, there seems to be a problem when the shutter button is pressed, triggering the error state. When using the same lens on my father's 500D I get a different error, this time telling me there's a comms problem between the lens and the camera. It also says to clean the lens contacts to resolve the problem. Here's the question. What method should I use to clean the contacts? I've tried a (clean) pencil eraser to no avail. Is there anything else I could try before junking the lens? Jabo

  11. Splendid idea Colin, thank you. Erm...you did say 'beverages included'? - You'd better move away from the door, I'd hate for you to be knocked over in the rush... Jabo
  12. Mick, what diameter are the mainwheels on that Ju? I have an idea...
  13. You putting the crew up again Kelly? Jabo
  14. You'll find that with rugby fans Pup, while rival soccer fans have to be segregated to prevent violence, rugby fans can be all mixed in together along with copious quantities of alcohol (something else that's different about soccer) plus much trading of insults and everyone gets along famously . Except the French obviously. Le Jabo
  15. And set the countdown to the right date. Not 29th July...
  16. I dunno Chet, I think the type of flying is the dangerous thing, not the type of aircraft. The advantage is you've a nice yellow and black handle in a modern aircraft to pull when it all goes pear-shaped. Accidents involving modern aircraft tend to be much worse for the unfortunates in the way on the ground. Warbirds tend to be flown far more conservatively than say an F-22 with the emphasis on not breakiing the aeroplane - and generally that's been pretty successful. There's always room for something to go wrong though - that's true too. Jabo
  17. 28th June is the opening ceremony I believe. The BBMF Lanc is scheduled to do a poppy drop overhead. If time/funds allow, I'm intending to go (Probably go straight to Duxford in the evening - grab an extra night at the hotel as I'd be heading there the following morning anyway) Jabo
  18. Worked out how to put it in the sidebar - lol

    Hitler Sings...

No m8, I suspect you're thinking of 'Springtime For Hitler' which featured in that film. This is from the film "To Be Or Not To Be" according to YouTube, so may or may not be correct.
