  1. Welcome (if a little late). Good to see you online tonight.

Don't forget our annual get-together is on again at Flying Legends (IWM Duxford). I'm guessing you've been before, but it's a howl new experience with the DDz!

  2. I used it extensively in my previous job, I really liked it for certain applications (like hacking windows accounts) and the fact that you can run it from a USB memory stick makes it ultra-portable. The important thing to bear in mind is that it will not run windows apps, although there are a lot of open-source (free) applications which covers a lot of bases (OpenOffice for example).

What were you considering using it for Snack?

  3. Yep, they're lucky to still have her after the mid-air engine fire which grounded her a while back. This and a B-24 are two BIG reasons for wanting to do (probably) Chino in the next couple of years. Lovely find Snacko - she's a beaut.

  4. Well, I can't say I'm surprised that some people are kicking off about the game if the whining beforehand was anything to go by. Yes, there are issues (see Vista), but the guys at 1C are obviously taking them seriously and working hard to resolve them. I wonder how many of the whining community are long-term Il2'ers who have seen 1C approach to problems in-game before. I suggest 1C give them their money back, ban them permanently from 1C and ubizoo forums and they can go play whatever the flavour of the week FPS is.

  5. Erm, not quite Mayhem, the DDz Steam group is indeed invite only, but only to prevent people outside the DDz from joining willy-nilly. What I said in the post announcing it was if you let me know your Steam ID I will send you an invite. The more the merrier!

  6. Hi Jim, this may help

Once you've logged into Steam, click the community link (it's highlighted) as below. This will take you to your community home page - yours will probably look different to mine, but no matter.

Immediately below the community link, there are a number of other tabs, Home, Profile, Friends, Groups, Invites, Games. Click on the Invites link and you should see a number of invites awaiting your attention.

  7. Use the friends drop down menu (top left-hand corner). The Add Friend option is in there Snacko. I'll have another crack at adding you in when I get home tonight (while installing a version of CloD I can understand with any luck).

jabo_dd (case-senstive) is the account I'm using to administer the DDz group, so that's the one to add if you want access to the group. dd_jabo on the other hand is my primary account and the one the international version of CloD will be installed under.

  8. Don't worry Jim, I've added you into my friends list and sent you the invite to the group too. You'll find two invites waiting for you when you next log into Steam, one for joining my friends list, and another for joining the DDz group.

  9. Where do I find it Nick?

Have you created an account on Steam yet? If so, just search for jabo_dd and add me to your friends list. When that gets to me, I'll be able to see your ID and send you an invite to the group straight back.

If not, you'll need to install Steam first. Go here and click on the Install Steam button (it's in the top right-hand corner). You'll be taken through the account creation process as part of the install. Then add me as a friend and I'll do the rest.

  10. +1 BA - you realise that's twice in one year we've agreed on something!

I think we're seeing here a situation where there is so much negative press (usually from people 'out of the loop') and considerable anticipation, people are just getting a bit tense. I honestly don't feel that the game is any slower than '46 on my rig, and the quantity of additional detail is staggering. Just sitting in the Tiger Moth yesterday with vehicles moving about the airfield, deckchairs on the grass beside the dispersal hut, shouting 'Contact!' and pressing the i key - just brilliant.

    Well done Oleg.

  11. Having d/l'd the Russian version and given it a try, I can say it looks as good as the videos we've been seeing. I'm still in the process of finding my way around the menus, but the whole thing looks pretty polished to me.

I can confirm that 6DOF works straight out of the box (TIR5)

One thing I like is the anthromorphic controls option which if used prevents loads of buttons being pressed simultaneously as your pilot only has two hands and needs one on the controls! People with macros programmed into HOTAS setups beware!! (I count myself in this number!)

All in all, so far, great. Hurrah!

P.S. My preorder status has changed from 'submitted' to 'in progress'
