MM i have duplicate user names and passwords and all stops being fine if the guest account is disabled via the 'Manage' MMC. By default the guest account is disabled in User Accounts applet which as per MS restricts is log in abilities. MS advise never to share the root of your system drive and to consider read only access as an added security measure. I did try disabling the guest via mmc and it just wouldn't accept username, password as authenication to access a share point
