    Sound Issue

Ok, so round 2 of a problem which i can see building to the complexity of Jabo's frame rate issues.... 1. Feedback now seems to have gone. 2. Game sound Ok. 3. Microphone works and records (although as an asside i found that if you have more than 2gb of memory windows sound recorder will record but when it comes to saving, says "not enough memory". This is a known bug!) 4. Streamed video from a cinema web site worked the first time after booting up, the second time I tried to watch a trailer, I get the crackle and pulsing back. 5. There is little or no sound from VLC media player when trying to watch a DVD. Pule and crackle still evident. 6. Windows "bings", "bongs" and "chimes" are also fine. This crackle sound problem was evident before I changed the cd-rom for a dvd drive. Something must have gone wrong with my system previously. Virus and spyware checks upto date. Any "sound" experts wanna have a go a cracking this one? I am offering the services of Sister Rebbeca from the Priory for the person that nails it! Cheers Friar

    Sound Issue

Having now seemingly sorted the crackle and pulse on the video sound (by re-installing the Audigy2 software) I now have another problem. I can not turn the volume up to any decent partner annoying level before I get a sound not dissimilar to a finger being pushed around the top of a crystal wine glass (go on, you have all done it to impress the kids!). Not good on the ears. I have not moved speakers from previous positions. Any suggestions as to where to look? Cheers Friar
  5. no, clock settings are fine. so i guess not. its all sorted now so guess thread closed.......for now!
  6. 9. So Guru's tell me this cos I'm dazed and confused.... In replaceing my cd-ro for a dvd drive (see other thread) I had to get the machine up on the bench (well dinning room table). I powered down, removed the power cable and pressed the power button to discharge any remaining juice, then removed all usb's and netowrk cables. So the machine is now dead. I work on it and every thing is fine. I replace the drive, plug back in all the cables and switch it back on.....now why the feck does the machine think the x52 is a new device, and as a result wont load the profiles? any offers ? Cheers Friar

  13. Hi guys, My present rig only has a CD-Rom drive. I have just purchased a DVD/CD writer to replace it. Are there any pitfulls to look out for? I was expecting it to come with some driver software, but all that was delivered was the actual drive. Any advice before I start? Cheers Friar
  14. There was talk of going to see the Shuttleworth Collection on Sunday. Browsing their site I notice that the house and grounds will be hosting the Bedfordshire County Show on the Sunday and Monday. Me thinks that the roads and site could get REAL busy.

  19. also, bit of a long shot but any idea of what may have caused the drive to screw up like that? could it have been the update patially installed, although I was told that when shutting down the machine they were given the option to install and shut down or just shutdown, they just shutdown.
  20. Excellent, thanks guys. The only thing i had to do to enable this was to turn off "simple file sharing" to get the security options for her pc. I love you guys.........

  22. Hi help also please with this one; Using Firefox 3.0.5, when I click on a mailto link from a website I get outlook express launching even though in tools/options/applications I have set outlook as the default mail client. I have also checked Outlook Express and it is set NOT to be the default client. Outlook launches but then Outlook Express launches as well and wants to send the mail, but I have not got it configured so of course it wont work. Any pointers please. Cheers Friar
  23. Hi guys, I wonder if someone could give me any advice on the folowing problem; I have been asked by a friend to try and recover data from a replaced hard drive. The drive was replaced before I got to see it because it was un accessable. Appently it became unaccessable after a windows update which was not installed, the machine was just switched off. The next time they switched the pc on it would not boot up. The machine was given to another party who has replaced the hard drive. I now have the drive. Using a USB 2.0 to IDE and SATA cable I have been able to acces the drive from my machine. Initially I was not able to read any information on the drive. I just received an error message (which I can now not remember what it said doh!) After doing some reasearch on the net I performed a "chkdsk /r" During the chkdsk there were numerous messages. Some related to orphaned files others related to indexs being re-calculated. I now have access to all the folders except the "My documents". When I try it says Access Denined". I have tried various security / permission settings but to no avail. I have tried taking it back to the original machine and using the cables plugged into that machine but got the same issue. The new hard drive does not have the same user names. The third party just generated a generic username. IS there anything else I could try? Cheers Friar
