Many thanks to Chris for last nights help. The problem i had was that i got the message to the effect that the game could not load because it timed out reading from the dvd rom. it offered me a link to the securom site and the suggestd fix which involved changing some of the device manager settings for the drive. after talking to Chris it turned out that my setting were ok. the next thing we did was to do a flash upgrade to the drive hardware. we dug about a bit on the dell site and found an upgrade for my make of drive. i applied this patch, re-booted and the game was then able to load. it does seem to take a long time for the menu screen to come up. it does not load up quite like the previous version though. it loads with the windows tool bar still at the foot of the screen and the in-game cursor locked. i have to alt-tab out of the game back to desktop and then click on the minimised game entry on the tool bar. this then brings it back to full screen with the ingame mouse working. i aslso had a problem with the sound echoing / reverberating. this also effected teamspeak. Bbloke is a great guy, and i was really glad to hear his voice helping me but not with an half second echo! i rebooted again and reduced the settings on my audio acceleration and that problem now seems to have gone. Chris seems to think that the startup lockup is because another program (probably to do with securom) is launching and taking the window focus. this has to be cleared and then i am back to normal. perhaps when i can carve out a bit more time i will see what it flys like! so much for a "just popping onto the pc for ten minutes to do something............"

got mine this morning (18th) but having install problems (see gamers hell link)

i sorry to say that i am getting these problems. the game loads from the icon but leaves the windows tool bar at the foot of the screen. when the front screen comes up the cursor does not work. i have gone to the link on securom but do not fully understand their solution as i do not know which device my cd/dvd is primary or secondary.

still waiting for mine to, although i take some comfort in the fact that just perhaps our games are stitting on the boat from jersey, side by side, getting to know each other before they are split up and sent on their merry way to the far corners of this great country of ours.

do i need to do anything with internal filtering to be able to connect to the game hosts ie jim, glenn?

i have just replaced a usb broadband modem for a router. my question is: this now seems to make the connection an "always on" connection. with the usb modem i used to click on an icon to connect when i wanted to use the internet. when i was finished, i drop the connection. i have not installed any software for the router (by voyager 220v), just plugged it in and away it went. should i install the software that came with it? the modem was supplied for a "business" connection but was not required

to make an object not fire / reduced fire you have two options 1. set the sleep time to a long period, i have working with this recently and think the max is 60 mins. it will not fire during this period. 2. set the rate of fire to a high number, 100 will give virtually no aaa, it is a very slow re-load time. 1 is normal. 3. you could also set the skill to novice to reduce how good they are at hitting you. hope that helps

i bought tir4 recently and it has made a lot of difference to the s.a (although i am still not very good at it!) it can be a bit frustrating at first until you have tweaked the settings to suit you. delta7 has written a very good review on warclouds and can point you in the direction of template settings. it is simple to tweak and does not reuire any technical ability. i have the threee poinmt clip that comes with it on the baseball cap that came with it. flying in a group is real cool when you can turn your head around and look at the other around you. i used to use a hat to look before but found the jerkyness of it frustrating. bottom line GO FOR IT!
