Sunflower
I'm there, my level of incompetence! With the help of the phone tech I assigned my machine a static IP and DNS, I assume that's the internal IP I'm directing 21000 towards? What's the internal port number mean? 21000 only? 1. DDz Quorum B16Enk Posted October 10, 2006 1. DDz Quorum Share Posted October 10, 2006 21000 is your internal port, unless you configure your server to listen on an alternate port number. Your router does 'port translation' a handy feature if you need it, confusing otherwise. You could (but wouldn't actually want to) direct external requests for port 21000 to port 80 (http and have a web server with a default page telling them to go elsewhere and procreate). 1. DDz Quorum B16Enk Posted October 11, 2006 1. DDz Quorum Share Posted October 11, 2006 Hi Clarke, Yep bridge it and rely on your software firewall. Not the ideal solution, but at least you are up and running and secure
Sunflower
Thank you sir. I think I'll put in a router, I want the NAT security but I'm going to play with this anyway... I can connect to a game, or at least I could before I messed with it, just couldn't host.
Sunflower
I seem to be able to host now.

Tonar
I figured I would post here, thanks to roger last week I got set up for hosting and everything worked well. last night I bumped into Cold Gambler after our coops session and I offered to host a little. well needless to say he was not able to connect. I went and checked my port forwarding and it all seemed the same as it was. I had no Idea what to do next. so we just met up on HL. I guess my question is. is there a way to check this connecteion by yourself? without someone else
Blairgowrie
The problem could be with Cold_Gambler if he couldn't connect to you. If I recall he just got a new router and it may be blocking him. The first thing you should do is have someone else try and connect to you. If you want to try later today when you get home I can try and connect to you.
Tonar
Holly Shit BG, YOUR ALIVE!!!!!!!!! :o we were worried about you last night when you were not around. you think that it could still be his end even though he could still connect to HL? Sunflower
Yep, its quite possible that its his problem if he can connect through HL but not directly. Send me a message of some sort if you're working on it and I'll see if I can connect. I've got Shadow's TS open, in Ready Room.
