GreyKnight Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Another Damn Interesting story... http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=744 Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Yes am amazing story alright. I remember when it happened. Hard to believe they could make such a mistake on something as important as fuel. Imperial pounds!!! Quote
Klinger Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Pretty crazy. Great pilot and crew. The metric/imperial thing is pain in the ass like GMT/EST. An easy trap to fall into though. While driving through speed cameras in Norway, my m8 would ask, 'How fast are we going m8?' I saw 50kph on the clock, so I'd reply, 'Oh, about 30mph' That irritated the hell out of him. Quote
BadAim Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 A similar thing happened to one of the Mars landers. Nasa specced out the thrusters in poundels and the contractor built them using newtons. when they fired them they were significantly short on power, causing the lander to never be heard from again. I'm glad the other story ended better. Quote
BadAim Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 We should make those guys honorary Danger Dogz. Quote

Its not just metric.... Dont forget that the americans cant even decide on the gallon...They have 2 (dry and liquid..whats that about?) and neither equals the original imperial gallon Quote
