getting frustrated

So I decided to give DCS in VR a try to see if it ran OK. It didnt. As as I am not enjoying GBS in flat screen mode I need to do something about it. I dont have a restore point on my C drive so my options are limited.

option 1 format C and reinstall Windoze and all my other stuff. Costs only time.

option 2 go back to Intel and get a new MB. Reinstall everything. Costs some money BUT I am not that impressed with AMD bios and the overlocking arrangements. So IF I have to do a new install of Windows I might as well go back to Intel

Any thoughts? Current CPU Ryzen 5900X and an MSI carbon MB.

Difficult to tell.

One thing I do know for sure, is that if your c'puter has stability issues then first stop over clocking.

Overclocking sounds nice and smart and bad ass 'n' all  - but if it aint stable, it is just bad without the ass ...

It runs fine on flatscreen and doing photo editing. from what I have read VR NEEDs 5GHz and it used to run fine. If I reinstall Win10 and then change the MB to Intel if it has the same chipset as present would I still need to do a complete windows install?

complete windows install going from AMD to Intel:  Sorry, cannot tell. Never tried that.

'used to run fine': Sure, I know, my Asus board and water cooled i7 did that on 'Fast' overclock setting. Until it no longer did!

Now if you try and do not overclock, and see what gives. What if it's stable and fast enough?

I have now got the Win10 media creation tool on a USB stick and will have another go with VR with the Zen oc software off. If that doesnt help then format and new Win 10 will have to be the way. If that dont work then its a new MB and back to Intel.

That didnt solve it, however following a suggestion on th Il-2 forum I used display driver uninstaller and have just had a 20 minute flight on WW server I got 80-90 FPS constant so it looks hopeful.

Just ran 3Dmark Timespy and Port Royal and temps are fine on both GPU and CPU. When I quit the game last night and took the headset off the monitor showed the Il-2 hanger screen with a Windows message Il-2 not responding. I dont know anyone with a 3090 or 4090 but as 3Dmark ran fine its not a hardware issue. I am now looking for a VR test/benchmark app.

Another stuttering mess last night, so I went flatscreen. Today I used JSME to move all the mods out and left mods on in the Il-2 GUI. Joined the DD server and got a solid 85FPS, no stutters. Looks like a corrupt mod so I will find out more later today

Oh man, I completely forgot about mods and JSGME and shift... sorry about that - But those should be like very high on the list of trouble shooting the not obvious issues!

But then, how many mods do you use? I still only have the dd-icon thing and the back ground mute one :)

I enabled the sound mute one and also started TS. Stutter city. I found that disableling logs on TS  fixed the stutters. DCS also has issues which could be just settings. I might go on TS tomorrow evening and fire up Il-2 and TS and see what happens.

Due to issues with the PC not seeing the headset, I have gone down the Quest 3 route. I did get a working G2 out of my 2 headsets and cables but I dont trust it. I have potentially sold it to CEX to ease the finance. Also ordered a cable and both should be here on Saturday. Does the Quest use Windows MR? If it doesnt I will uninstall it.

Not having a good time. Cex found a scratch and wont buy the old headset. Had issues setting the Quest up and then it died, so I have ordered the replacement, due Wednesday

Do I need to remove OpenXR tools for WindowsMR?

Remove anything\everything to do with WMR, Quest doesn't use it. Can't be any help beyond that, I went from a G2 to a Varjo Aero, will say DCS runs much better in OpenXR (the "MT" exe) than OpenVR..
