delta7
Guys my family have recognised my slippage into full blown obsession with warbirds and bought me a revill 1/48th scale spitfire kit for christmas. It is about 30 years since I last made kits and was looking for some advice or tips on how to tackle this- recommended tools, paint etc I have found this site which looks good but others appreciated http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ cheers

BBloke
I've always tended to paint the cockpit bars from inside!! I know it sounds strange but it does work and it also stops the possibility of them scratching of.
Rattler
Use a liquid mask or masking paper/tape for canopies and other items. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/699810.asp http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/pac/pacmt108.htm http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/bad/bad600.htm I build my models in major sections. I'm working on a P-61 right now, and am building the fuselage, tail booms, and wings as separate constructions at the same time. I'll post some pics soon... 1. DDz Quorum Painless Posted January 16, 2007 1. DDz Quorum Share Posted January 16, 2007 ~S~ Dave, cockpit bars/frame , yup use modellers masking tape if your brushing and tape plus masking liquid if your spraying M8. The real trick is to spend time filling and sanding all of the major joints, (fuselage halves, wing halves ,wing to fuselage joints etc.) Let each coat of paint really dry before over painting with another colour. Use the decal solutions you can buy from a model shop to get them to mould to the aircraft surface, (follow instructions on the bottle carefully and don't panic when they crinkle up ) LOL Leave the cockpit off until the very last . If you can spray the last coat of silk finish lacquer over the whole surface including the decals it will help give the plane an even scale shine. Weathering should all be done before this last coat also. As I no longer have an airbrush I managed to buy a little can of silk lacquer from my local model shop, the nozzle was truly crap and kept clogging !! As you probably realize, spraying the whole thing with an airbrush is the way to go but a bit expensive for a one off model. Feel free to ask about any specifics M8 , no problem
Rattler
I got me an airbrush and compressor/tank from the missus last Christmas. Oh joy, oh bliss! If you're serious about modelling, it's the ONLY way to go!
