Not an aeroplane yet... but, a milestone for sure! Possibly the first running of a Yak 1 Klimov V12 since the war.
This engine is earmarked to power the original Yak 1 one being restored over here by the Historic Aircraft Collection/Retrotec.
Would love to hear this in the flesh!

Not his best IMO. The one around the banked circuit is my fave. Number 3, I think?
Still bloody impressive though!

Not so sure about full recovery. Poor lass has lost her right eye and has severe head and facial injuries.

So chaps, here's my updated spec!
The mobo comes with 2 sata cables and i already have a mouse/keyboard and DVD-RW drive.
Are there any components that you know have better/cheaper alternatives, or is this a decent marriage of parts?
I'm so out of the loop these days.

It's got me a little excited that I could have a pretty darn good new rig for well under a grand.
Didn't think it was possible to be honest!

Haha, fair enough!
-
So perhaps stick with the 2500K then?
To throw another thing out there. I feel as a current AMD user, it would be wrong of me to perhaps consider their options...
Fen has the X4 and loves it. I've just seen this, it's quite a bit cheaper than the i5, is it worth entertaining at all? http://www.ebuyer.com/186428-amd-phenom-ii-x4-965-black-edition-3-4ghz-socket-am3-6mb-l3-hdz965fbgmbox

Thanks chaps, you're awesome.

Yes Jedi, all i've ever heard is good things about the 2500K and up until now that was probably my first choice, but it's this that has got me interested:
i5 3570K for only £8 more > http://www.ebuyer.co...-bx80637i53570k

Oh yes, thanks Kev.
What do you reckon on the newer i5?

Hi chaps!
Spurred on by a great weekend at Duxford and rather missing my flying with the Dogz I am once again giving some serious thought into building a new rig.
With just 5 mins at ebuyer, i've come up with the following list as a guide to my requirements/budget.
If you guys could steer me towards better combinations of parts or better deals or any thing at all that would really help.
GFX will be courtesy of Fruitbat/Fenrir in the way of a 280 I believe, until I have some more cash to throw at a new card!
Should I go for a SSD drive for OS/applications straight off?
I see there is now a i5 3570K for only £8 more, would it be better? > http://www.ebuyer.co...-bx80637i53570k

I couldn't care less if he was French, Lebanese, Martian or Lesbian.
I just hope he learns to shut up a bit more this year!

He was last year

This is the only downside to the weekend. I really hope that he cant make it this year but fear the worst
There was a time when his commentary positively contributed to the experience.
Unfortunately that was about 5 years ago, now he loves the sound of his own voice so much we need to mic the merlins...

Some interesting developments on this extraordinary discovery.
It seems the more poignant and important aspect of this event, the recovery of the P-40's lost pilot is reaching a conclusion.
Although not yet officially confirmed, it is believed to have been Flight Sergeant Dennis Copping of Southend, England.
For an interesting insight into the search for this missing airman by a dedicated italian team, i suggest reading on from the following link:

And here is the Vintage Wings of Canada's touching dedication to the aformentioned pilot on their own P-40:

Flying participation announced for the 2012 Flying Legends Air ShowWith only three weeks to go to this year’s Flying Legends Air Show on Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July, The Fighter Collection and IWM Duxford are delighted to announce some of the stunning aircraft that will be flying in this year’s extravaganza event.
Flying Legends sees the air show debut of The Fighter Collection’s Republic P-47G Thunderbolt 42-25068 ‘Snafu’, one of only two Curtiss-built examples left in the world. (See Editors Notes for a full aircraft biography).
The Sikorsky S-38 makes its UK debut at Flying Legends. An American twin-engine eight-seat amphibious aircraft, it was sometimes called ‘The Explorer’s Air Yacht’ and was Sikorsky’s first widelyproduced amphibious flying boat. In addition to serving with Pan American Airways and the United States Army, the Sikorsky S-38 was owned by numerous private individuals, including aviators Howard Hughes and Charles Lindbergh.
Making a welcome return following their debut UK air show appearance at Flying Legends last year is the Flying Bulls’ Lockheed P-38 Lighting and the Chance Vought F4U-4 Corsair. The Flying Bulls’ stunning aerial performances will no doubt wow the crowds at Flying Legends.
Flying Legends is famous for presenting a unique combination of remarkable aircraft in superb aerial displays and this year is no different.
Over fifty aircraft will be participating, including two Hispano Buchon; eight Spitfires covering various marques, including two Mark One variants; three Hawker Sea Furies; three Hawk variants including the Hawk 75, the P40B and the P40F; three marques of YAK fighters; a Fiesler Storch and a Lysander. Three First World War aircraft – the Nieuport 17, Fokker DR1 and Sopwith Triplane - will fly together for the first time. The ever-popular Breitling Wingwalkers will perform as a two-ship display. And of course, there will be displays by the famous IWM Duxford-based B-17 Flying Fortress, Sally B and the PBY Catalina Miss Pick Up.
The legendary Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Supermarine Spitfire, Avro Lancaster and Hawker Hurricane will display on Saturday 30 June only, while on Sunday 1 July only the Aerostars perform stunning aerobatics.

Shoreham Airshow - Any Takers?
in Jim's Place
Posted
Hi chaps,
Who would be interested in going to the Shoreham Airshow this year? It's held on the 1st-2nd Sept.
I've been going for a few years now and it's rather enjoyable. However, I understand due to it's location (south coast) it may only appeal to us southerners.
The line up this year looks good (Vulcan, huzzah!):
I probably won't commit to one day until i've got a clearer idea on the weather situation!
So, who's in?
