  3. Meeting The Backroom Boys - #2 It has been pretty quiet around the Chapel over the last few days, I think that a lot of the pilots must have gone home for Christmas, so as there were no souls in need of my spiritual guidance (I would guess that they were all probably letting the “spiritâ€
  4. Ah I see the New York branch got my note and did not waste any time in sending out one of the special "Sisters of Virtue". They are differnt from the normal Sisters of the Priory. The "Sisters of Virtue" all come from good backgrounds, are well educated and have attended finishing school. They are held back and only sent out on "Special" missions.
  5. if i stay on the forum for a long time, how many times could i see in the new year with my friends around the world?
  6. i too must offer my thanks for the praise you guys give me. i blush at your generosity.
  7. Ah, welcome my weary web travelling friend. Come on in and take a pew (so to speak). On behalf of the K9 Squadron, let me welcome you to our Chapel. If this is your first visit to my humble abode, let me introduce myself. My name is Frior-One. I am the Squad Chaplin. I am here as a representative of the Priory of St Oleg. The Priory, based in a mountain retreat in Lichtenstein, is a modern, forward thinking non-denominational organization. I am here to tend to the needs of my community, some of them stranger than others. I am able to offer a good listening ear should you wish to get any stories or troubles off your chest (the other is blocked a bit with ear wax I think). Cash will always get you confidentiality. Stay a while and take a look around, take a moment to read some of my articles, these will help you get a feel for the type oc community we are. I would like to offer one word of caution though before I leave you to browse around. In everyones life, there are opposites. For all your good, there is bad, for all your dark, there is light, for all the yin, there is yang. For all my good work, there is Doubletap.

  19. In the spirit of Christmas, as I was out walking this morning, I decided to look in on my local Catholic Church. The Church was quite busy, must have been some special service or something. The bloke at the front was giving some sort of travel reveiw I think, I must say that I was not giving him my full attention. He was talking about some husband and wife of a friend of a friend of a friend, you know the usual story, who had been on holiday to some tourist hotspot and had been over booked and had been given an alternative of some flea-pit hotel called the "The Stable" or something. That was the gist of the stoy anyway. He did not have my full attention because sitting in the front row was a group of hot looking Nuns. I thought to myself that I did recall any of the Sisters saying that they were going to be visiting my part of the world, but I know that their work takes them to many places (although Suffolk seems to be a bit of a no-go area for some reason at the moment). The upshot of this visit was that, overtaken by the ceremony, and the atmosphere of forgiving etc, I found myself in the queue for Confession. I waited in line just as all the others had for my turn to go into the little box and speak with with the Father in private. My turn came, and in I went. "Forgive me Father for I have sinned, I have gloated at the mis-fortune of another man" I uttered, rather nervously, never having done anything like this before. The Preist was on the ball, he said "I dont seem to recognise you my child, have you not been to Confession before? "No" I replied. "This is my first time at Confession. You see I play this game on the world wide web called IL2 Sturmovik. Its an on-line world war 2 dog fight game and its really cool, you get to fly all sorts of aircraft and the flight model is brilliiant and you can build your own missions and everything. Well last night, I was playing and this bloke called Doubletap, thats not his real name, thats Glen, but we all use Nicknames when playing, mine is Friar-one, but I dont think that you want to hear about how I got it. So anyway, Doubletap and I were engaging in this dog fight (thats when two planes try and shoot each other down, although the squadron I fly with are the DangerDogz, but that is co-insidental), he thought that he could duck down under me, I was flying a FW 190, I am not sure what he was in, so he pulls down below me, I bank my wings over and down to the left, thinking that I may try and follow him, well, he disappears below my nose, so I think, what the hell, opps sorry Father, the FW has a shed load of ammo, I think the lead (the distance you aim in front of a plane so that he flies into your bullets) is about right, so I pop off a few rounds. BAM ! he losses a wing. Well, he was rather surprised I can tell you. "Was that you Friar" he exclaimed. "Yea, it was me" I cooly replied, sounding as if I had meant it. The truth is Father, it was a completly lucky shot and I spent the rest of the night telling the other members of the group about it, about how I had worked it out." The Priest seemed a bit stunned at this. There was a short pause before he asked me "And you are telling me this because?" with a very quizicle note to his voice. "I am telling you because I am so dammed pleased with it that I am telling anybody who is willing to listen. From here I am going to the Mosque, then then Synagogue, then the Christian church, after that the Morman Tabernacle, follwed by the Scientoligists. From there its over the road the Senior citizens "pop-in" centre and ending up at the Lost and Found department of the local railway station." May I wish all "my flock" (steady Bbloke) a very Merry (not to much scotch BG) and Happy Christmas.

  22. UPDATE ON MY PROBLEM i sent off a launch analysis to securom laast night. they replied to me this morning saying that they had had a look at the report and it pointed to the fact that it was not a secrom error and that i should contact the software supplier. i had a browse on the ubi forums this morning and there were a few posts that mentioned that it could be a mis-match between my game screen resolution and my desktop resolution, i have
  23. Many thanks to Chris for last nights help. The problem i had was that i got the message to the effect that the game could not load because it timed out reading from the dvd rom. it offered me a link to the securom site and the suggestd fix which involved changing some of the device manager settings for the drive. after talking to Chris it turned out that my setting were ok. the next thing we did was to do a flash upgrade to the drive hardware. we dug about a bit on the dell site and found an upgrade for my make of drive. i applied this patch, re-booted and the game was then able to load. it does seem to take a long time for the menu screen to come up. it does not load up quite like the previous version though. it loads with the windows tool bar still at the foot of the screen and the in-game cursor locked. i have to alt-tab out of the game back to desktop and then click on the minimised game entry on the tool bar. this then brings it back to full screen with the ingame mouse working. i aslso had a problem with the sound echoing / reverberating. this also effected teamspeak. Bbloke is a great guy, and i was really glad to hear his voice helping me but not with an half second echo! i rebooted again and reduced the settings on my audio acceleration and that problem now seems to have gone. Chris seems to think that the startup lockup is because another program (probably to do with securom) is launching and taking the window focus. this has to be cleared and then i am back to normal. perhaps when i can carve out a bit more time i will see what it flys like! so much for a "just popping onto the pc for ten minutes to do something............"
  24. got mine this morning (18th) but having install problems (see gamers hell link)
  25. i sorry to say that i am getting these problems. the game loads from the icon but leaves the windows tool bar at the foot of the screen. when the front screen comes up the cursor does not work. i have gone to the link on securom but do not fully understand their solution as i do not know which device my cd/dvd is primary or secondary.
