BluBear Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Exciting times indeed. Who will be preordering here? https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/oculus-rift-pre-orders-to-open-on-jan-6/ Quote
2. Administrators fruitbat Posted January 6, 2016 2. Administrators Posted January 6, 2016 Lots, $600 plus tax. Apparently £529 in the UK all in. I'm going to sit out and see how Vive compares. Looks like it might be slightly more expensive but have some better features. If i'm spending that much cash, i want to get the best one of the two. Either way, unless you've got at least a 970, preferably a 980 I wouldn't bother anyway. Quote
BluBear Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 Hmmm, I think that may be wise. Isn't Sony working on one as well? Looks like they staying tight-lipped for now... http://www.idigitaltimes.com/sony-skips-playstation-vr-update-ces-2016-501121 Quote
2. Administrators fruitbat Posted January 6, 2016 2. Administrators Posted January 6, 2016 I've heard the sony one is going to be play station only. Although that would appear to be a very dumb move, but who knows. By the way Vive had there big announcement yesterday. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-35229548 A front mounted camera which can overlay the real world , so you can see without having to take it off. Good idea me thinks, although is going to push the cost up. Quote
DD_Arthur Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 A couple of predictions; Sony will release a VR unit tied to some sort of Playstation 5 release. Whatever Occulus release this year, next year you'll be able to buy something very similar direct from China for less than £150 including p&p. Quote
2. Administrators fruitbat Posted January 6, 2016 2. Administrators Posted January 6, 2016 Right about the Sony part. Have you seen the build quality of Chinese knock off i phones, and their ability to spontaneously self combust. Quote
DD_Bongodriver Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I won't be straping anything 'chinese knock off' to my face. Quote
BluBear Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 I won't be straping anything 'chinese knock off' to my face. …unless her name is 'Patsy', has extraordinary thighs and promises a 'good time long time'? Quote
DD_Arthur Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 The Occulus dev kits were made in China - or was it Hong Kong? Quote

Well yes, I am prepared to make an exception. The Occulus dev kits were made in China - or was it Hong Kong? It's not the made in China bit that worries me, most stuff is made there, it's just the 'knock off' merchants from China that make all manner of unintentionally explosive toys. Quote
Crash Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I have run the occulus checker and it ticks the boxes but I think that I will wait for "Black Friday" before committing. Quote
