There's one other nice thing you can do with TACAN, you can use it to get range to a flight leader.
The wingman needs to set his TACAN 63 higher than the lead. I don't know why 63 higher but it seems to be a standard across planes, same in the Hornet, A10, Harrier, Tomcat, Mirage etc.
It will not give you bearing, just distance, but this is very useful for keeping good position, plus in datalink aircraft you can see the position of your wingman in the HSI.
