Lordy, I've really no idea - Are you counting 'work' as well or just my own computer at home?
-
That is why I use TrueImage to make a complete image backup to an external USB drive. Fix the drive and restore it as it was in less than 45 minutes. Also comes in handy should you ever get a virus or any other OS failure. It is well worth doing.
Not really in my case Hill, I do own TrueImage (as in bought, not a hooky copy - I know, shocking right?) but my OS setup changes frequently and I can't be bothered to keep updating the image - plus, I've never been too enamored with it's imaging capabilities - maybe it's time to have another look.
do not lie to your self Nick. You just LOVE to take your compy apart and building it up again
btw ssd in raid? like ssd is not fast enough?
i have one ssd for main boot drive and my comp is booting not more than 5 - 6 sec. with ssd in strip it must fly!
lol - maybe
Pretty much yeah - plus both SSDs are SATA III and are connected to SATA III connectors on the mobo - which in theory gives a throughput of 12Gb/s although this is not possible in the real world - SATA III actual bandwidth throughput is up to 600MB/s so I could get 1.2GB/s - pretty quick. I also store a few big programs ike Adobe Photoshop and Premiere on the RAID - launching them from the SSD is a real treat.
You need two computers, one to "tune up" and one standard device to leave alone as a back up for chums time.
Hope you are OK for Thursday m8.
P.
One day Michael, one day...
Anyway, 'tis all sorted now.
Jabo
P.S. problem was, I believe, due to a power outage followed by a big voltage spike when the power came back on screwing the settings of the RAID controller - not much I could do about that really.
-
So I get in from a hard days keyboard bashing at work all aglow at the prospect of fleigening with my chums this evening. Plonking myself down in my comfy chair I switch on the 'puter for a quick system check and the thing fails to boot - device not found. Odd I thought and went through the BIOS settings and I notice that at the boot device was set to one of my SSD drives rather than the RAID volume it should be. Still not too perturbed I reset the boot device to RAID, save and restart. Second boot goes past the BIOS but then fails at the RAID controller. According to a friendly screen my RAID volume now comprises 1 SSD. Now you can't make a RAID volume with 1 disk so I have to remove the array completely and then rebuild it which wipes the drives. And now I have to reinstall windows. Oh joy.

Remember I am sure you guys know most of them like the back of your hand.
Actually there are very few like that! There are so many now that it would be impossible to remember them all.

P.S. Unless you're FT
-
Dp you really need more than 3 for a driving game?
-
I'm with Colin here...
You would be...
I think the point is Mick that while I might play other games I don't spend much time doing them - Skyrim excepted - got a few hours in there now.
-
It's no good, that green bacon in the middle is definitely off.
However, what every good salad needs is...
-
OK......
on the main screen I show version 1.11.20362. I has assumed since the last patch was 4 point something I needed an update.
Think you might be confusing that with '46?
-
Ouside IL-2, BoS, RoF, CloD, DCS? Skyrim's probably taking up most of my spare gaming time right now which is unusual because it's not normally the sort of thing I enjoy but I did pick it up for a bargain price. I usually prefer civilisation-type strategy games (Tropico 4 most recently - although I've now completed all the scenarios and all the DLC's too - still have the sandbox though). Also racing games such as PGR or Forza on the Xbox (not recently though - the kids are using it more than me.
Jabo
-
My view is that the CloD vs. IL-2 '46 debate boils down to a few points - Firstly CloD has a hugely restricted aircraft set compared to IL-2 (no Mossie, P-38, P-51, Beaufighter etc etc etc) although what aircraft there are look verrrrry pretty. Add to that the fact that despite TF's amazing work CloD is probably at an evolutionary dead-end - will we ever see new aircraft or maps or are we doomed to fight the Battle of Britain for ever more? Secondly, in order to get the best out of CloD you need a machine with a fair bit of horsepower, yes, you can dial back the settings but most of us are used to playing IL-2 turned all the way up to 11 (graphically). Plus there are a few omissions such as the lack of proper anti-aliasing.
Don't get me wrong here though, I really like CloD and I have huge respect for the people who've made it playable. I just wish there was something out there we could point to and say, "yep, there's a proper successor to '46", perhaps I'm just being naive and the days of games with the depth of IL-2 that take time and effort to learn let alone master, have gone in favour of instant gratification, zombies and statwhores? (obviously I'm not referring to any of the other equally ambitious flight sim projects out there in that last statement)

You'll need at least a 600 series card for that FT, I had a look too hoping I could run it on my ancient (NELI) GTX580 but nope.
Jabo
-
It's a problem for sure. Time to review which days we do what maybe? Il-2, CloD, BoS, RoF, DCS, FC3 etc. As I see it though the problem is that IL-2 is still the most 'complete' game with (most of) the bugs ironed out, light enough to support large-scale battles with multiple air and ground targets on even relatively modest (by current standards) machines and so on and so forth. Something that none of the others can (yet) compete with. Yes, they all look great and play pretty great (this varies a bit) too but if the point of the Dogz is to be inclusive then should we risk 'shutting out' people who might not have the wherewithal to have a hotrod PC for playing games on?
Incidentally, I am in no way advocating a blinkered 'IL-2 or nothing' approach either as that would be to the detriment of the squad as well as to those newer, shinier toys but perhaps a rethink is in order.

Hmmm, maybe that's where I'm going wrong.

It's certainly not true about the blood - in fact blood stains red fabric black. The adoption and continued use of red by certain regiments (and later, forces elsewhere in the Empire) after the Restoration in 1660 seems to have had more to do with the relative cheapness of red dyes than policy. Funnily enough this also led to the end of red tunics as general issue in 1914 as the cochineal dye used at that time had become prohibitively expensive. These days red tunics are only authorised for officer mess dress and regimental bandsmen.
As far as French officers wearing brown trousers, I'm pretty sure that might be part of the joke too.

Could be that you've changed the size of your backdrop or one of the buttons. Mine threw up a similar fault yesterday, Got around it by removing the last change and it started working again.
Actually, having taken a closer look, it looks like you've got the Flight, Bombing, Radio and Info tabs all on. Not entirely sure how you've managed that but they're all showing in red. That's why you've got all those buttons on top of each other.

Very nice Arthur - very nice indeed.

In order to setup an android tablet (for the purposes of this guide, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3) as a button bay, there’s a few things you’re going to need.
-
Firstly (and most importantly) you’ll need a tablet computer (connected to your home wifi network) and a second monitor on your rig. This might not be the deal-breaker it appears at first sight since most modern graphics cards have two outputs and you could pick up a second monitor pretty cheaply on the second-hand market. The reason you need a second monitor is because you have to display the Touchbuddy panel in order to be able to share it with the tablet. If you have both of these – read on.
-
Now you’re going to need some software. Because I’m essentially a nice person I’ve already uploaded the necessary ones to the Vault. Look in the Utilities section for ‘Touchbuddy Files’. Download and unzip it to a folder and then unzip the files inside (except tightVNC) to their own sub- folders.
-
Install touchbuddy, the touchbuddy toolkit and tightVNC onto your computer and install your VNC app on your tablet
-
Launch tightVNC and access the server configuration screen by clicking the VNC Server icon in the system tray (down by the clock in the bottom right-hand corner (normally)).
-
Now set the ‘Server’ and ‘Administration’ screens as per the screenshots below. Remember to set the Primary, View-only and Control Interface passwords – They should all be different but it’s up to you.
-
Now set up VNC on your tablet. I’m using the Android-VNC-Viewer app so it might look a bit different if you’re using a different app. Here are the fields to fill in;
(i) A nickname
(ii) the password (same as the Control Interface one)
(iii) the IP address of your rig (hover over the TightVNC Service icon on your computer if you need to find it)
(iv) the port (5900 is the standard one for VNC – I think)
(v) and a username (this needs to be the administrator account name for the computer) – I’ve blanked this out on the screenshot but it will display the account name in plain text.
(vi) Set the ‘Color Format’ to 24-bit color (4 bpp)
(vii) And ‘Force full-screen bitmap to ‘Auto’
-
If you now click ’Connect’ you should see the computer screen on your tablet. You might need to drag the screen across to see the second monitor.
-
In order to control the mouse pointer on the computer, click the Menu button on the tablet, select ‘Input Mode’ and switch to ‘Mouse Pointer Control Mode’. You’ll also need to make that switch to use Touchbuddy.
-
Along with the TB software in the 7z file, I’ve also included the profile posted by Snacko (masquerading as WBK) over on the TB forums. The main file is IL2-Series-wbk_2.1.zip, this includes the primary panels and all the switches, buttons and knobs used on the panels. Once extracted, the contents of the folder should be copied into the plugins folder in TB – In my case that is E:\touchbuddy\plugins. There are two further files in the zip, WBKs_Bombsight_Calculator_Plugin_1.1.2.zip and WBKs MSMP_Music_Plugin_3.0.35.zip. I haven’t yet done anything much with these, but instructions for installing them are in the readme’s in the zip files.
- There’s not much more I can impart at this point. Most of what I have learned had been by reverse engineering Snacko’s panel and asking him questions. My version of his panel is shown below but apart from some re-arranging and button removal I haven’t really done much although I plan to add a Nav panel which will enable me to use beacons and access maps etc. This will be going where the empty Flaps panel is at present. I also intend to start work shortly on a new panel for CloD before starting one for BoS.
