  1. Steady on Arthur - we won't have any of that sort of thing around here thank you.
  2. Tom has asked me to post some news relating to the discussions and polls recently and the new schedule which will be run initially on a trial basis with a view to it becoming permanent in the fullness of time. So, after due consideration, starting from Sunday 16th June (this coming Sunday) the flying schedule will be changing to; Sunday - GBS Monday - IL-2 '46 Tuesday - GBS Wednesday - CloD Thursday - DCS I have also been asked to point out that this is NOT necessarily the final version and there is always room for changes to be made, but the key thing is that if you want to ensure that your preferred sim continues to flourish then numbers are what's required. Cheers all Jabo
  3. It's too bad you couldn't stay for the second day Dave, it was definitely an experience! Thanks to everyone who was able to attend on either day! Photos to follow once I've had a sleep.

    D-Day

I was listening to this as well Arthur despite Radio 4 not being my first choice of station. Worth a listen!
  5. Crash and I will be there on Tuesday - I'll be at the Classic Wings marquee as I'm playing photographer for the day. Tom, Chris and I will be there on Wednesday. If you want a lift to & from the field on Wednesday, let me know which hotel you're at and I'll come pick you up. Food and beers on Tuesday night too maybe?
  6. Crash, Fen and I are at Duxford next week (Tuesday for Dave, Wednesday for Tom and both days for me). If you're coming then, you'll need to book a ticket online before arriving (https://www.iwm.org.uk/)- the D-Day 75th Anniversary flypast of DC-3s and fighters over Normandy is departing from Duxford on Wednesday - hopefully 38 Daks will be taking part (There's 13 on the ground there as I write this) If you're into Armor, then the Tank Museum at Bovington is worth a visit too.
  7. It doesn't work well for me I'm afraid, but as I said previously, any decision should be made democratically for the good of the group and not necessarily for specific individuals. As such, if the changes suit the majority then so be it. ~S~ chaps Jabo
  8. Thanks for the hard work on this Tom, it's very much appreciated.
  9. You could change gears based on forward/backward movements of the stick like a semi-auto gearbox?

Like the NZ flag you have there...
  11. So for what it's worth (and I appreciate I'm in the minority here) 1. CloD 1. '46 3. BoX 4. DCS Any day but Friday, Saturday, Sunday difficult to commit to. Oh, and I won't be investing in VR as I have enough trouble dealing with AR. Cheers J
  12. That's pretty unequivocal.
  13. That looks pretty bad - Is the guy who's been jailed an employee of ED?
  14. It would be nice to see a different Horseman display mount this year, but it's all good!
  15. Having talked things over with a few people on TS, the idea was put forward that perhaps we should swap the regular nights for GBS and '46 so GBS got the Sunday primetime slot but 46 would still be available for the luddites (myself included). If attendance for '46 continues to dry up then we could maybe look at 2 nights a week on GBS and put '46 out to pasture, except perhaps when we want a change from the Eastern Front? Just an idea like I say, but it seemed a pretty popular option.
  16. Personally, I'll be sorry to see '46 and CloD go. For me, DCS requires too much effort to be moderately competent let alone competitive and GBS doesn't have the planeset or scenarios that hold my interest all that much. It doesn't matter really though - I fly so little now anyway that my input to the group is token at best. That said, I do think that the group as a whole needs to find a way forward that suits the majority of regular flyers. Our decisions when '46 was THE sim were easy - now there are 4-5, making everyone happy is going to be nigh on impossible. I will go along with the majority view for the good of the Dogz, whether I decide to fly or not.
  17. How about a 3 ship Corsair display - there's enough of those in Europe I think? Oo, oo - Dragon Rapides!
  18. Definitely a wish Tom, but on the 'Will it be at Legends' scale it's at the unlikely end somewhere after a visit from Fifi and Diamond Lil
  19. Three Sabres!
  20. 16GB in the rig at present Chris - seems to do everything I need - If cash is no object then 4x8GB is the way but if you're looking at 16GB then buy 2x8 rather than 4x4 - at least that way you can upgrade at a later date without needing to ditch what you've already bought. For an explanation of the timing codes (8-8-8-24 for example) there's a useful article here. In short though, these numbers relate to the various latency timings across the DIMM and lower is generally considered to be better. It should be noted however, that these are absolutes (without overclocking) and your mileage may well differ. If (when?) I return to DCS (Mosquito anyone?) I'll not be upgrading to 32GB for two reasons; 1) I would need to change out all the memory I currently have (Sid was kind enough to pass on his last memory kit and that's 4x4GB) and 2) sure as eggs are eggs it won't make me a better flier.
  21. Well, yes and no. There are two engines at Duxford at present and three more currently under restoration in New Zealand. Now there's a Beaufort under restoration in NZ which will need two engines (handily the Beaufort can use the same engines as the Beaufighter - depending on the mark) so at present there looks to be enough engines to go around. I suspect the Dux examples will go to NZ to be worked on in due course.
  22. Talking of interesting things in the pipeline...I dropped in at DX today to have an amble and I saw this tucked away in a corner of Hangar 2 (home of the Fighter Collection for those that don't know). Now this, unless I'm very much mistaken, is a super-rare Bristol Hercules (probably an XVI) and there's an aircraft in this hangar with a requirement for two of these. It's obviously incomplete and unrestored, but looks in reasonable shape. Could the Beaufighter project be moving forward at last?
