  1. I assume you mean that you have a 2TB drive rather than a 2GB. For most bits of recovery software that I've seen, the target drive has to be considerably larger than the source drive as rebuilding the file structure takes a lot of space while the software is doing its thing. The software companies concerned take the easy way out and say you need double the capacity on the target drive.

    This will also take a very long time with a drive of this size. Would it not be quicker just to download the games again?

  2. Hi Mobius, good to hear from you again mate. Just one thing to bear in mind regarding mods (for you and JP) , in order to connect to our servers you will need to run the game in 'mods on' mode even if you're not using them yourself. That's because if you want to run mods locally on your machine (like a lot of the guys do) then the server has to be running 'mods on' as well and therefore everyone connecting to that server also need to run 'mod on' irrespective of whether or not they use mods themselves. There's a checkbox in the Game menu under Settings to turn mods on when you get to that point. If you decide you want to use mods, then the best way is to use JSGME just like in '46 and there are a few helpful threads on the IL-2 forum explaining how to go about setting that up.

    PM sent with the TS details.

    Hello JP!!!!!:salute:

    Get 'em all while the sale is on.  Bodenplatte is the latest and greatest so it's not on sale yet but it's got the aircraft we usually fly.

    The Great Battles series is completely separate from IL2 1946.  We don't use '46 anymore.  1C Games sent Oleg to the Lubyanka after the debacle that was Cliff's of Dover and Il2 has basically become a franchise.  The Great Battles series - with an American producer running a development team in Moscow - is where we are now.

    Get em' here

     https://il2sturmovik.com/

    It looks like this;

    We fly this every Tuesday evening at @7.30 gmt and Sundays 7.30 gmt.   Hopefully, someone who knows these things will pm you T/S details soon.

    Very nice to see you here again.  Now we just need Rattler's wife to excommunicate him and he can fly with us too!:thumbsu:

    As you will be able to see JP, we've managed to nail the issue of everyone taking off...

  4. So who's up for this one chaps?

    I'll start the ball rolling...

    1. Jabo (Friday, Saturday, Sunday - room booked)
    2. Crash (Friday, Saturday - room booked)
    3. Sweper (provisional)
    4. Friar (Friday, Saturday)
    5. Fenrir (Friday, Saturday)
    6. PapaFen (Friday, Saturday)

  5. The theoretical maximum speed for a SATAIII connection is 6GB/s. I don't think 6 megabits per second is going set the world on fire 😉. Notice the use of the word theoretical - you are unlikely to see anything remotely approaching that in a real-world application (SATA SSDs are still much quicker than standard hard drives) - much like the fuel economy figures the manufacturer says you can get out of your car/truck/bike (delete as applicable). PCIe SSD cards are available but I would advise you to check very carefully that your board supports them, I've skimmed through the manual and I think it's highly unlikely but I'm prepared to be proved wrong. They are also MUCH more expensive that a standard SSD so I would probably just add another SSD and keep the change.

    Failing that and if you're feeling flush, swap out the mobo, processor and memory and get your added horsepower that way - in addition you could then swap out SSDs for M.2s later if you felt so inclined.

    • Thanks 1
  6. So sad to hear this - I remember inviting Bill to join the Dogz after he posted a question on the CloD group on Facebook. I'm glad he managed to fly with us for a little while.

    Blue skies mate.

    Arthur I had the same issue as I had moved the install to the G drive. I asked FT and he said mine should read "G:\\Flight Sims\\1C Game Studios\\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\\"  so swap the G for an E and you should be good to go.   If at start of 0.84 you get the 'Fix your registry error", then look at the file bos.reg, open it in Notepad.
    Amend the path that in this example is pointing to ="C:\\BOS\\" to the path where your BOS is installed. (Just the main folder, do not point it to Skins)
    Mind you, use the proper syntax, use two \\ in the path! Close notepad, double click bos.reg and confirm.

    I had the same kind of issue Arthur, the fix posted by Crash above fixed it in a jiffy.

    The line in question for mine looks like;

    "InstallLocation"="E:\\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\\"

     Oh, you only want a limited set of skins for a/c types downloaded

    That's exactly the reason FT, I don't see myself buying Flying Circus Tank or whatever it's called so I don't really see the point of downloading the skins. I thought it might be problematic as there's nothing in the file/folder name to denote which is which so it's not really a major issue if it's not a simple solution (add to that the fact that I've already downloaded some 1,400 skins of all sorts using this utility of yours it's probably a moot point anyway).

    Nice work though old boy, I'm far too lazy to go looking for skins for the planes so this is ideal.
