  1. Are you sure this is nothing to do with any anti-virus/firewall settings - I'd be inclined to try turning off the firewall(s) and see if that helps. Good point from Gec there - see if Roger would mind providing a bit of remote assistance. ~S~ Jabo
  2. Hmm, not tried that, but always used alt-tab before without a problem
  3. Nothing wrong with your memory Jim, it was me. I also pointed out that when in the past we had taken machines which were pre-loaded with Vista, and tried to re-build them as XP machines, we had big problems getting drivers for the internal components (this was a particular problem with laptops, but also to a lesser extent with desktops too) Yes and no
  4. Fabbo m8.
  5. What he said...
  6. There are a number of sort of free codecs out there which will enable you to play back DVDs - I'd need to have a look though. ~S~ Jabo You're running XP right? Scrap that - download VLC media player (google for VLC and you should find it) - plays pretty much anything...
  7. are you using the same USB port for the X52 as before?
  8. No better I'm afraid Rog. I have found something interesting though - The problem only seems to surface when I alt-tab back to the desktop. This indicates a pretty obvious solution, but I like to be able to hop out and back into the game again while I'm waiting for everyone else to finish. ~S~ Jabo
  9. Sorry for being dense - how do I do this? Doesn't help I'm afraid - now FreeTrack doesn't work and I'm still at 10fps I don't understand this at all - it's been working fine for a couple of weeks without any problems - now (without changing any programs, installing anything new - it's FUBAR - not happy. Worth a re-install of windows or not? Is there a Linux version of IL2? - Only partly joking
  10. I'm afraid this has made things significantly worse as now FreeTrack doesn't work in the game at all and even when I put IL2 back to it's original setting, the issue with FreeTrack remains. I'm beginning to wonder if it might not be better just to go back to XP and stop fannying around... ~S~ Jabo Oh this is just bizarre. Without shutting the game down, I've just launched the QMB again, and I'm back to my more usual 60+ frames per sec...and FreeTrack's working fine. Changed aircraft - still fine. Changed aircraft again, back to 10 fps. WTF!!! LOL alt-tab out and back into game - now 60fps. Alt-tab a second time - back to 10
  11. 16xQ and 16x respectively (the highest the card supports)
  12. From the early days? Could have been any ordinary DDz night now. Nice to know things haven't changed...roflmao ~S~ Jabo
  13. Thanks FT. I can rule out anti-virus activity, and there doesn't seem to be anything else grabbing resources, but I'll have to check again I guess. ~S~ Jabo
  14. Hi guys, hopefully someone out there can assist me. I had some serious issues this evening with single figure frame rates both online and offline during frantic efforts to 'fix' (ha ha) the problem. Some of the guys online suggested posting a dxdiag and my conf.ini, for you techie bods to have a squint at, so here they are. Fingers crossed the problem will be diagnosed at least. Thanks in advance ~S~ Jabo Not sure how to attach files here, so popped them in the vault for now. Files
  15. Roger's beaten me to the punch again although I would add that you need to ensure that the jumper settings on the back of your new drive match that on the old one (either master, slave or cable select) ~S~ Jabo
  16. I agree Jim, but it's a quick fix.
  17. The game is available as a download from Ubisoft for $9.95. Check the link here. ~S~ Jabo
  18. Unlikely, m8, that copy of XP will have a licence key attached to the laptop, and will probably have been modified to refuse to install on non-HP hardware. You could pick up a copy of XP Pro without spending too much, although you need to bear in mind that only the 64 bit version will be able to use all of that 6Gb of RAM you're proposing. ~S~ Jabo
  19. Thanks for the suggestions chaps. OK, all working again now, it appears that the power switch connection was already faulty as five minutes with a soldering iron this evening and hey presto! And now for the apology part - I, Jabo, wish to apologise to all the DDz who were online last night and witnessed my outburst. All I can offer in my defence is that I was under significant duress so if I offended anybody, I'm sorry. ~S~ Jabo
  20. Here's the thing. Yesterday (Wednesday) the PC was working great, no problems, everything ticketyboo. Today, nothing, zip, nada...well, you get the picture. Blasted machine won't even POST. I've checked the power to the PSU, PSU connections to mainboard, removed/reseated the memory and the graphics card. Removed every non-essential component, still nothing. HEEEEELP! Not possible to fly tonight as a result - seriously not happy. ~S~ Miffed of Yorkshire# PS. Now, as result of having the case in bits, the front of the case has fallen over and yanked both wires from the power switch AAAARRGGGHHHH. Question, if I short the two wires from the power switch, does that fool the system into thinking that the switch has been operated? PPS. Stuff it. I'm going to bed. Any suggestions for tomorrow gratefully received.
  21. Careful Jim, you'll harm your reputation for omnipotence... Nice bit of software though... ~S~ Jabo
  22. Oh, you're using reflectors, didn't take that into consideration.
  23. How are you getting on Mike? I can hop onto TS early if you need more help? ~S~ Jabo
  24. Hang in there Mike. Just as an addendum to Roger's post above, I've now tested my 'fixed' patch in XP (32 & 64 bit) and Vista Home Premium (32 bit) without problems, so hopefully it'll help you out. ~S~ Jabo
