  1. 'multi-coreness' - lol. Thanks chaps, unfortunately very under the weather today, so birthday drinkies have been postponed. Still, got some new books to read so being ill has it's advantages Means I might also have the chance to get to the bottom of Sid's processor problem (more later ) Jabo P.S. wibble.

Well, the 6600 gives me a whole 5.6% improvement in Passmark (whoopy-doos), but here's an interesting thing, the CPU test reports a 30% improvement which is probably fair, but all the other component tests (memory, gfx etc) give a worse score than with the old CPU in - up to a whopping 20% (Worse!!!) for the 2d gfx test. Why is this? (Oh and Kev, we were wrong, it's not power related) Jabo
  5. Happy birthday chaps! Jabo
  6. ~S~ Condor, welcome aboard. You'll find that the settings we generally fly are a little less stringent than UKDed 1, we normally have externals on for example. As far as training is concerned, best to jump in and learn the hard way, unless you have enough spare time to enrol over at JointOps (some of their instructors fly here - see Painless). It's still learning the hard way tho - lol. You'll need a few addons for the game, but the patriarch should be about with the necessary links before long. Jabo
  7. Likewise Jim, that could have been nasty. On a safer subject, how's the grass?

Thanks Kimo Both chips are rated at 2.4GHz, so there's not much difference other than the additional cores. I think I'll benchmark the rig now, then chuck in the 6600 and benchmark it again. I don't think the MSI board gives me anything I don't currently have on the Gigabyte other than eSATA (which I don't use) and half the number of USBs on the back (which I do) so assuming the 6600 is good then that board and my C2D will be the basis of a new rig for the GF. 9. Hey chaps, I've just come into the (legitimate) possession of an MSI P7N Platinum mobo based on the nVidia 750i chipset, it's also got an intel quad-core processor (Q6600) installed. The question is this...Do I swap this board/processor with my EP45-DS3 Gigabyte & its Core 2 Duo or do I swap CPUs or do I do neither?
  10. Yep, that was JR. As a fairly frequent Radio 4 listener, I happened to hear that on the radio a couple of days back. Interesting to see video footage as well. Jabo
  11. Welcome to the pound sir! Jabo
  12. thanks everybody who showed up for the first airing of jabo.servegame.org. Guess I'll have to host occasionally now!

Thanks FT, here's a youtube clip I found which shows just how good the Raptor display was and how annoying the commentator was too! Even more than the French guy at Duxford!! Jabo

    Riat 2010...

So, a week after Duxford I drag the gf along to the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. Three main reasons for going; 1. F22, 2. Vulcan, 3. EADS BF 109 (the genuine article - none of this Buchon nonsense) I've seen the Vulcan plenty, but there's always room for another time - The F22 and 109 though - that was going to be two whole NEW experiences. Some other stuff first though; Globemaster III New paintwork to celebrate 558's 50th birthday - good going. Lunatic F-16 (either Belgian or Dutch - I forget which) First 'first' of the day - F-18 Super Hornet Second 'first' - First public outing for the new Airbus A400 - The eventual replacement for the C130 RNZAF B757 At this point we got to the BoB Flypast...
  21. ~S~ Bucky, our prayers go out to you all. Jabo
  22. Sounds like mobo or processor to me, especially if you've disconnected everything else. Bundle deals are usually good value, but I'd advise looking carefully at the spec of the contents, sometimes less than scrupulous retailers will hide a pup in there (eg slow memory, or a naff chipset on the mobo etc) Jabo
  23. ...in favour of the wall restoration program.
  24. Nice find m8, I shall have a browse I think...
  25. Aw shucks.... Thanks chaps!!!
