  1. 3 and 6 months indeed. And that rig was over £1500!! I'd have been v. unhappy. As was he. Jabo
  2. I must try harder. Jabo
  3. Ah, thought this might happen. My mini-rant was not aimed at you Mr. Krieger, rather the numpties on other forums who feel it's perfectly acceptable to burn precious minutes of my life with their inane witterings. It's like murder with a very, very tiny knife. Jabo P.S. Time spent reading the posts here on the other hand is not like murder in the 1,000,000th degree as they are erudite, cogent and AGREE WITH ME.
  4. I still think you're better off with a decent high-speed HDD which will only provide marginally less performance (day-to-day) without ramping the cost up. Incidentally, one of the guys who I used to work with had an Alienware rig with a pair of SSD drives. One of which failed three months in and the other after six months... Jabo
  5. Point is, how many people are qualified to say how a P-51 handled vs an Fw190? There will be people who say, "oh, my Spitfire Vb is 10 mph slower in the dive therefore the new FM is porked", but they're only comparing the previous FM with the new one, therefore 'historical accuracy' is something of a misnomer. All I'm saying is don't write it off before we've seen it, reviews are subjective, the only point of view that matters (to you) is your own. Compare this with the whiners over at 1c and the Ubi forums when 4.10 introduced 'realistic' bombing - I definitely wanted to shake one or two of them warmly by the throat while yelling "HAVE YOU EVER DROPPED A BOMB FROM A TEMPEST?? NO?? WELL STOP F**KING COMPLAINING THEN!!!" Jabo
  6. Not yet FT - maybe tomorrow.
  7. Lol, have you noticed the countdown has been extended? It was due to be available at 18:00 UK time, now its 22:00...Two weeks? Jabo
  8. 6.3GB? Lordy, that'll take me weeks.
  9. Link is here. Sorry, it's memtest not memcheck, this link will take you to the download page. My preferred way to use it is to download the .iso and burn it to a CD. Then boot the machine from the CD. Memtest will run automatically. Simples! Jabo
  10. I think 3 beeps is usually memory related. Try running a utility like memcheck on eash stick in turn to try and isolate the problem. Jabo
  11. Rog is absolutely correct CG, SSD drives are great for large file transfers, but not so hot for the small ones. I also think I read somewhere that the disk degrades quite quickly too? If you really want a high speed drive look into SATA III or a Velociraptor (Western Digital). Don't assume all your gaming data will be OK because it's on a separate drive. IL-2 is OK, because all the game files are held in one folder and there are no entries in windows files, but that's not necessarily the case with all games. You may get away with it, but equally, you may not. Jabo
  12. Ah, now the 'Collectors Edition', yes, that's a whole different kettle of fish. Customers back in the motherland seem to have done slightly better than the rest of us... I like having the disc though - next time it all goes belly-up, I won't need to download it all first. Jabo
  13. Hi CG, just a couple of points - 1. It's very, very, very unlikely that you'll be able to swap boot drives from one machine to another and get them to work especially in this case where you're radically changing the architecture. I've never found a foolproof way to do it and the voices have managed to convince me it's not a good idea in any case so I just reinstall each time. 2. Definitely increase the memory - Don't forget that over 3.5(ish) GB of memory cannot be accessed by 32-bit OS's due to limitations of the address bus, so If you're going for 4GB (or more) then you need to be going for the 64-bit option. Good news there is that the retail box versions of Win 7 come with both versions (although you only have one licence) 3. There is no direct upgrade path from XP to 7 so, yes, you'll have to do a fresh install and you'll be reinstalling your software (if you've got IL-2 saved on a separate drive you won't need to install that). See Point 1. OK, technically three points but meh. Jabo
  14. I'm with Shadrach and don'f forget either that this is exactly the same complaint levelled at ROF when it originally came out with two aeroplanes and a host of niggles - mainly that it wouldn't run on anything remotely not 'top-end' and furthermore, the developers then chose to release the game again with the issues resolved thereby getting their beta testers (me included) to pay for it twice. Brilliant if you can get away with it (that said I will concede that the support for the game from that point on has been very good). I believe we can be reasonably confident though that Oleg and co will not be following this path, so we can look forward to updates which will improve the playability of the game and as the community upgrade their machines over time (just as with the 'old' IL2) we will see faster frame rates and fewer glitches. Jabo
  15. wow, that's pretty darn low. Jabo
  16. Sorry Rog, I don't quite understand.
  17. When using two separate joysticks, it's a good idea to redo your axes assignments from scratch. So delete pitch and roll axes and assign them to the msffb. I don't understand why you wouldn't want the rudder on the twist axis unless you already have pedals. If you do though, delete the yaw assignment and reassign using the pedals. Ditto the throttle. Il2 will sort out which joystick it is automatically. For example, my sidewinder is stick 1, the x52 throttle quadrant stick 2 and the button bay prototype, stick 3. It all works nicely together. Jabo
  18. Happy birthday Tom, hope you're having a good one. Jabo
  19. Ah that explains why they got rid of it. Could never understand why they wouldn't want an orignal DX combat veteran on their books. I guess it was a part swap for Velma or the Sea Fury? Still, the more the merrier. Jabo
  20. Very nice BB, the Horsemen were a highlight a couple of years back, so it'll be good to see them again. Although it'll be nice to see 'Tear back at DX, in a way I would have liked her to have retained the markings she had while over here, especially since they were the ones she'd had since her combat career at DX during the war. Jabo
  21. No, it was Jedi and me, but we weren't whispering. How's your hearing? (runs for cover) Jabo
  22. Hear hear. But what happens if you don't smoke or drink much? Given that I don't give much to the government from that point of view at present, can I keep the £100 a week? Jabo
  23. right-click 'a.exe' and select 'Run as Administrator'
  24. Hi Sierra, the normal process with Win 7 is to open the disk and run the a.exe file. When the installer asks you for the installation directory, don't install in the default directory, rather create a directory away from the default windows folders. Jabo
