I have decided to change the sata cable, reseat memory and cards and see if that cures it. If it doesnt then try a win10 upgrade and if that doesnt work then a clean install seems to be the only thing left to try

I will reseat memory and vid card tomorrow. I dont know if its a good idea to "upgrade" to win10. It might cure it but it might carry over. When it sticks it stays stuck! and the windows loading files screen turns black. I have imaged my C drive so after reseating I might go to 10 as I can go back to how it is now

As it says. I have checked on tinterweb and one cause could be windows update issues, but its not that. I have re routed the power to the boot SSD and its the only one on the power supply, so its not that either. If I let it run the repair the files load and then the screen goes black. If I use the win7 disc it relabels the C drive E. If the boot is successful it looks to me like the screen resolution is different so could it be a graphics card driver problem? Any ideas?

Target is the GUI for the Warthog programming software

Win7, TS, Target, TrackIR, Clod, Elite installed and working now being backed to to a spare drive, after a few problems with the latest Nvidia driver messing up Target and the window manager. I will test this out for a couple or so days and then maybe go to Win10

I think I need to re-install stuff due to Windows liking Appdata and users folders etc

I moved my "My Documents" folder to my backup drive so as not to loose stuff if/when it goes tits up, but it seems to have "re-spawned" and I have now decided to stop fighting and let everything such as Elite Dangerous install where it wants to. As this folder contains the IC softclub for CloD I have a bad feeling about CloD not working

I have decided to do the install after I have done the CloD night on the 10th December, just in case there are any issues after moving stuff about.

Thanks for that. Is there any info on how MS views upgrading motherboards, CPU and graphics cards?

I have had a look on the MSI download page but the only driver for the motherboard available is the realtek audio, no sign of USB or eithernet so I hope that the drivers on the disc will be OK

OK then, thanks for that, I will probably do this over the Christmas break as that time of year is when I install windows
I installed 7 and it ran elite and Clod yesterday Grrrr
