-
Can you please confirm date you wish to use so I can plan next hurricane mission and let 352nd chaps know
-
We were planning to run missions on 2nd and 16th of February.
If no other suitable date then I can postpone for a one off
-
We have successfully hindered the enemy withdrawal by sea, the next objective are enemy airfields.
Transport planes have landed there to ferry men and material to the mainland , we have an opportunity to catch them on the ground as they refuel.
P-38s will attack at low level and bomb the stationary planes. Spitfires will provide cover.
Expect heavy flak and air cover as the enemy try to protect their comrades .
P-38s are limited to 2*500 for first sortie then any bombload they like for further sorties
It will be an air start with ground bases available to land at if required
Mission scheduled for Sunday 2nd February

Thanks for your kind replies, guys!
@Friar I looked up the DCS section of the forum here and got the impression that you guys exclusively fly WW2 planes. Sadly I don't have any of those but I'll let you know if I decide to buy one.
I only have Flaming Cliffs 2024, the Saab Viggen and the Syria map (I bought it for the legendary cold war server of Enigma89)
Which scenarios do you guys prefer? I think I'd choose a plane accordingly when there's a sale.
@delta7 see you on Sunday then
I might be there a bit later due to dinner time but I'll join you guys right after
Edit: Just visited the IL2 page to update the squadron tag
I use the phantom or F-5e on DCS
Join us when it suits mate

Operation Husky
Gentlemen
We have been reassigned to Malta and the conversion onto spitfires is proceeding apace.
We must hurry , High Command are planning to invade Sicily and there are rumours that an enemy convoy is en route to help evacuate their troops, we must get ready to provide cover for our attack planes as they try to intercept the fleet.
The next mission will take place on Sunday the 19th.

I feel the Box group are being dismissed. Yes it is a minority but Jim set up this squad to be fair and equal to all members.
The last 2 recruits, mossie and petrol only fly BOX so are we going to say that they are not as valuable as those who only fly DCS ?
We are not recruiting either in Box or Dcs and the 16 members Fen mentioned are practically the squad now, I cant see how changing nights would improve anything for the squad as a whole but impact BOX more.
One other issue regarding Sundays is that we host the missions with the 352nd , where we get 12 to 16 flyers, something that I have put a lot of time and effort into and that I would not be happy if it was removed. I have always supported other members missions and would like to think that the same curtesy would be applied to my own.
I realise that I am in a minority and that the more influential members will get the change they desire but I would ask that they respect the Sunday nights we fly with the 352nd, its the only time that the Box flyers use the server to host.
-
I will get in touch with 353nd and propose to restart these a week on Sunday ,which is the 19th
-
I have gotten a positive response from 352nd and out group so will restart these soon. I am in discussions with deacon over their proposed missions and will feed back to all with any proposals

Why are we bringing this up again? just recently we had a vote on this, are we just ignoring this and repeating untill one part of the squad get their own way ?
do the dcs users really need Tuesday or Sunday when they get such good numbers already? They can use any other nights. I thought Monday and Thursday were dedicated for them.
as the box group only use our servers on Sundays you could run dcs anytime you like but to me it would adversely effect the squad if you run two groups on the same night

I would like to guage interest in continuing with this. The next planned phase is Italy mid war so we would fly allied with p-50b, p-38, spitfires, A-20s
I have emailed the 352nd to see what their thoughts are but would like to know the dogz opinion.
I am happy to generate the missions as long as people are interested but if folk think they are repetative/uninteresting then Im willing to listedn to alternative suggestions

Congratulations gents
Despite strong air cover resulting in some loses we managed to destroy a key bridge and harass the axis tanks. Due to our sterling efforts the axis have lost all control of North Africa and have retreated to italy or surrendered.
Our next mission is of vital importance to the war effort. The boffins have stated that if we can disrupt oil supplies to the axis forces this will cripple their war effort.
Due to us controlling Libya we are able to launch an attack on oil fields in Romania, our target is Poliesti , a major oil refinery .
Due to air cover we will attack on the deck with A 20s. escort will be P-51 b
Operation Tidal Wave was an air attack by bombers of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) based in Libya on nine oil refineries around Ploiești, Romania, on 1 August 1943, during World War II. It was a strategic bombing mission and part of the "oil campaign" to deny petroleum-based fuel to the Axis powers.
This operation was one of the costliest for the USAAF in the European Theater, with 53 aircraft and 500 aircrewmen lost. It was proportionally the most costly major Allied air raid of the war, and its date was later referred to as "Black Sunday". Five Medals of Honor and 56 Distinguished Service Crosses, along with numerous other awards, went to Operation Tidal Wave crew members. A 1999 research report prepared for the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama concluded that the bombing campaign in Ploiești was "one of the bloodiest and most heroic missions of all time".[

The 352nd are proposing to start a continuous online campaign in the new year where every action will effect the front line, supplies etc, they are canvassing support from others but if we get enough numbers then they will consider running it on Sunday s at our regular time, so if anyone is interested in joining, either flying or tanking please let me know here and I will let deacon know

February 1943
Battle of Kasserine Pass
Gentlemen
The Allies have landed with no interference from the Italian Navy. Operation Torch is a success.
We are closing in on two sides
To prevent this enciclement Rommel has ordered the Afrika Korps Assault Group from Feriana to attack the Kasserine Pass.
The upcoming battle will be the first major engagement between U.S. and Axis forces in Africa.
To support our troops we must destroy a bridge to prevent the enemy from reinforcements and then destroy the armour columns in the area.
The attack groups will fly P-38s and cover will be from spitfire Vs
Plane limitations: P-38s on first spawn will only carry 2*500lb bombs
on further spawns can take 6*500lb bombs
no rockets

Gentlemen
November 1942
Congratulations on successfully defending the convoy. Malta is saved and will go from strength to strength until the axis are kicked out of the Mediterranean.
General Eisenhower is launching operation Torch, landing troops in North West Africa to assist us.
However, the general staff are worried that Italian warships, holed up at Taranto after our successful swordfish attack, might break through and disrupt these landings
Our task is to destroy the ships in and around Taranto. Leading the attack will be a squadron of A-20s
which, due to predicted heavy AA, will conduct a low-level raid. These will be escorted by P-51b fighters which will have the range to cover the bombers there and back.

Operation Pedestal was a British operation to carry supplies to the island of Malta in August 1942
Gentlemen after successfully pushing back the Italians , the Germans have been forced to send troops , armour and aircraft to shore up their Allies. They are supplied by ship across the Mediterranean. These convoys are harassed by submarines and aircraft from Malta.
We have been diverted to Malta to assist in the air cover for a vital supply convoy. If this convoy does not get through then the aircraft will not have fuel or ammunition and the islanders will starve. The island will be forced to surrender and we will lose a vital staging post for harassing Rommels shipping supply.
In order for the map to work we will be flying from German airfields on the map. We will have hurricanes and P-40s. If you have the desert mod on and use the skins then although the enemy are flying from Russian airfields they will have the correct markings.
The task is to fly to the south of the island and protect ships. A second wave of enemy bombers will be forming up to attack from the south. There may be other enemy aircraft active over the Island
Plan is to run this on Sunday 3nd November.

Jester handles radar, and sidewinders heatseakers are independent so a bit puzzled
-
I had a few issues last night with radar in phantom not detecting. I have no problem offline. And no issues on Syria map
There were 4 migs I could see visually contrailing. I was slightly below , head on and got no warning from jester though I had long range air to air scan activated
Also no tone warning on sidewinders. Then boom shot down
After the first incident, I repeated the flight chasing 2 migs and checked all control and switches were ok but still nothing detected even when I was on their 6
Am I missing something obvious or is it an internet issue
-
Having successfully seen off the enemy air force out ground troops are ready to go on the offensive. Our task is to fly ahead of the troops to disrupt enemy reinforcement and act as observation for pockets of resistance.
There are no ammo restrictions

RAF 73 sqd campaign - Announcements
in Jim's Place
Posted
Gentlemen
Despite our best efforts the enemy has succeeded in withdrawing significant amounts of men and material to the mainland.
Our next task is to soften up the coastal batteries in preparation for a troop landing in Southern Italy
The primary task is to eliminate the control and command HQ in a fortress and to eliminate the coastal guns guarding the entrance to the port of Boughrara
The A20s will bomb , the spitfires will escort. Expect heavy air cover
Mission is scheduled for 16th Feb 2100 uk time
