That's bad - and probably the source of your problems - chkdsk /r might sort that at least enough to get the machine back up, but I think you're going to need a new drive.

If the drive is currently mounted as a slave in another machine, chkdsk can be run from the command prompt. If it's still in the original machine boot from your XP (or other OS) disk, and hit 'R' to launch the recovery console (I think it's on the first or second page you get). This will give you a sort of command prompt window where chkdsk as well as a heap of other useful utilities can be run.
