DoubleTap Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 anyone read any of Churchill's books on the war?are they worthwhile to pick up? I picked up the whole six volume set years ago for 25 cents a BOOK! My college library was selling them (the fools!). Sweet deal, but I have to tell you they are a tough read. I read a decent amount of history, but these books are not easy going, even though I am a big admirer of his. As I recall, Churchill mentions alot of names and incidental occurences and it was easy to get bogged down. As an American, perhaps by not being as familar with the names and places, maybe its a bit tougher to wade through. Perhaps I should try again soon. Quote
Klinger Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Walter Thompson's memoirs might be worth a look. He was Churchills bodyguard. Have not read it myself, of course, but the History Channel did a profile on him which was very good. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0, ... 57,00.html Dollar and a half well spent, DT. Quote
