Oldtimer
~S~ All Re my previous post on a new build - i've pretty much decided on the basic spec - core 2 duo, 8800GT, 2Mb DDR2 etc.
Klinger
I know how you feel OT. Too much choice. Been looking at motherboards myself lately. I narrowed it down to a P35 or an X38 chipset. X38s seem geared towards enthusiasts and have a lot of features I just wouldn't use. Plus they are expensive. P35s will do all I want, including overclocking. I rejected DDR3 capability at the moment, due to price of board and memory. Heres a good budget P35 mobo with 2 x 16x PCIE :http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-089-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=913 If you must have DDR3 capability, try this :http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-090-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=913 It only has 1x 16xPCIE, but most don't use crossfire anyway. Hope I haven't added to your dilemma. Cheers.
1. DDz Quorum Sid Posted February 17, 2008 1. DDz Quorum Share Posted February 17, 2008 Don't know much about specs because I was limited in choice because of what was on offer by the builders. I went for the Asus Striker because it has endless upgrade possibilities and that is what I saw....this is not to say that any other would do the job, just that I was limited in choice. Look out for the case and cooling too - I believe the 8800GTs run hot compared to the older GTX's etc.
Blairgowrie
Quazi would be the guy to ask. He is building a computer for some old fart at UBI Zoo and went through the same exercise as you are trying to do. I'll send you his email by email.
