DoubleTap Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 In other words, if you had to fight an air battle, circa 1942, how many F2A-2's would I need to give you to replace each Seafire? Quote
Fireman Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Playing Devil's Advocate here............. If this Poll is being used as a means of determining a possible SEOW event I would say that "numbers" are a poor means of determining their worth. Quote
JensenPark Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 depends on how many 'live' pilots...but I'd go with 2 to 1 if live vs live. Quote
GreyKnight Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 ...but I'd go with 2 to 1 if live vs live... WOW JP! Quote
delta7 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I dont think that the f2a2s could adequetly replace the seafire- the difference in performance is too great - IF I had to pick a number then Id rather have 1 spit to 3 f2a2s and face the higher odds as IMHO with the spit you can dictate a fight whereas with the f2a2 you would be struggling Quote
DoubleTap Posted August 21, 2007 Author Posted August 21, 2007 Well, thanks to those who have replied so far. Quote
delta7 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 the hurri is a wee underrated gem so its 1 to 1 for spit and hurri Quote
Rattler Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 The best (most even) match of the 3 (4) planes that I can see is the F2A2 and the Seafire F mkIII. The F2A2 turns better than the Hurri, and the Seafire F is slower than the Seafire L down low. Quote
BBloke Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Over my head and cant argue but I will post The numbers already posted sound well enough.. but the proof is in the pudding!! Quote
1. DDz Quorum Painless Posted August 22, 2007 1. DDz Quorum Posted August 22, 2007 ~S~ DT, one good pair of F2A2s could do in a Seafire but would have to set them selves up very carefully for a faster opponenet me thinks ?? Hell lets try it out ay LOL ~S~ Painless Quote
Enforcer57 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I think it would also depend on whether it's actuallly a solitary plane against several. I think a single SF against 3 Buffs is gonna have a big problem, but TWO SFs against 6 buffs might be a different matter. Of course, the pilot is the most important factor. Quote
BBloke Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I was just about to post "is this factoring in that we are the Dangers Dogz and Hell Hounds!" or are we on another playing field.... ...african swallow or european swallow! ..Then again, uh....African swallows are non-migratory..... Quote

delta7 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 fun this - did we not fly a mountain map co-op with these planes against each other in the early days ? Quote
Enforcer57 Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Doh! I was comparing the SF to the hurri, not the hurri to the Buff. Damn. Well, I kinda think the maybe 1.3 buffs per mk1 hurri, but 1.5 buffs per mk2 hurri. I know.....here's a good question: What if God and Superman got into a fight? Not George Burns god in "Oh God", but the "Bruce Almighty" god. Yeah....that's about right. I'm getting confused now. Quote
