ATI vid card - crashes

Was having problems lately where as soon as I started the game my whole computer crashed

"oh, that's why the game has been so fun...that twit JP hasn't been around" you all are no doubt thinking.

So I brought the 'puter down to the local geek place and 'lo and behold they told me it was the stock fan attached to the ATI 9800 I have.

"piece of shit" they said. Great card, lousy fan.

$20 and I have a new fan installed.

Hadn't heard of this issue before...

Anyone else?

yeah mate - I have heard they sometimes came loose- aftermarket fans were used by those who overclocked as stock was borderline for this use. might have got away with just cleaning it well but $20 isnt much for peace of mind- check that power supply to card is fitted correctly and if possible put it on a single lead from power supply unit - dont branch any other connections - this helps.

Had the same with a 9600 card, fan failed.

Got worse when I attempted to fit an after market fan, stupidly got brutal(ish) with it and the card never worked again.

Think I cracked the GPU pressing the fan locating pins in place....doh!
