    New Toy Mmm

New Years day and my 'new' toy is nearly seven years old Went for a walk on the beach. I'd like to say it was a bright, crisp and clear winter's day. It wasn't. It was urghhhhhhh......... "Look grandad. Even the freakin' seagulls are walking!"
  2. Interesting. Since actually paying over money for it my Tomcat has developed a roll to the right when I airstart or take off from a runway. Using a MSFFB 2 can you can really feel it wants to roll. I've no idea why it's started doing this and none of the other members of my DCS fleet does it either.
  3. Undoubtedly. The other jets I fly regularly - the Harrier and the Mig19 - have a sink rate that quickly becomes unrecoverable if speed is allowed to drop below critical for a mere fraction of a second. It's why I always go for the early curved approach. I find keeping control of rate of descent much easier this way. However, I've been getting more used to the Tomcat and I'm finding it surprisingly.......'floaty'......for it's size and weight. Just made my first eject-the-hood-stand-up-in-the-cockpit-carrier-landing😎. I'd love to show you but the bloody DCS trk. recording system is sadly knackered at the moment
  4. First attempt at a landing during my free weekend with the F 14
  5. USB sticks? I thought that might be the way. I've got big 'uns lying around so no problem there. It's got 1 gig of ram and 160 gig hdd so I think installing anything other than Win XP might be a bit.....problematic. Don't really want to go down the Linux/Ubuntu route as I'm not......a hippy so I'd prefer to re-install XP if at all possible.
  6. Recently, I helped my eldest boy and his family move into their new home. Whilst they were sorting through various bits of surplus junk that was headed for landfill they came across this old Netbook. They were going to chuck it but the Magpie in me claimed it as; a) It's in as new condition including all the original accessories, receipts, various discs and even the snazzy black leather case. b) It's a crying shame to just chuck stuff into a hole in the ground. c) It runs on Windows XP. My last Winsows XP laptop died a couple of years ago. Not that much of a problem you might think but Philips now discontinued Toucam Pro webcam only works with XP. They never got round to updating the software for later versions of Windows. The Toucam Pro has a 'proper' CCD sensor and a threaded lens which can be removed and by using an adaptor the camera can then be attached to the eyepiece of a telescope! The camera can be plugged into a handy laptop and controlled by it whilst the images it produces are stored and processed on the lap top. Anyway, before I go chuntering off into the realm of astrophotography; all is hunky so far but I have a problem. The operating sysyem has been erased. I know not why but the hd is....empty. It even comes with the original recovery disc but, being a Netbook it has no optical drive. So the question is 'how do I put the operating system back.' ? Phew
  7. @Hello Rog! Hope you and your family have a great christmas mate @FT; would we need to buy another copy of the game to run a second server? I see that the GBS series is on sale again and that BoS standard edition can be picked up for a princely $12.49 I think I could just about afford to buy the server a christmas present at those prices!
  8. Ah...answer; Yes!! Can access DangerDogz server now Thanks FT - that was the clue I was looking for. Typical half-assed installation instructions
  9. I don't have a Mods folder in my 'Saved Games' location. Should I create one and put the A-4E-C folder in it?
  10. OK; I've put the A4 in the same location as Toad. I'm not interested in flying it but it does not show up in my game and I'm unable to join the DD server without it. Obviously I'm doing something wrong but.........?

Whats this Artie? Have you taken to shooting skeet with MG42's? Are these MG42's? After the war everyman and his dog knocked out their own versions of this thing. I think the Bundeswehr still use 'em. The bonkers rate of fire - with a full size round - is irresistible. When I was a very young marine we were taught the way to deal with 'em - if you couldn't use a mortar - was to get in as close as possible, hope the guy with the MG would loose his head and squeeze off a long burst too many and then rush them while they were doing a barrel change. We were told we had a seven second window. Many years later I read somewhere that the bloody Waffen SS could in fact do it in four seconds!!!
  13. Check this out; https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/56874-coupe-de-la-rose-p-38-air-race/ OK, it's on a Tuesday night but it seems to start at 1900 gmt so might be good for a warm up before our session starts or even startle the French hosts by turning up mob-handed during the evening Hmmm.....so if I join this for a race I'll have their map in my multiplayer cache....hmmm....
  14. Come and join us for some formation flying in BoX Sweper
  15. Very nice takeoff Haven't flown it for a while....but landing the Spit is just the same for me as in BoS; at 1500' and 200mph the runway threshold appears under the trailing edge of the left wing. Close the throttle and start turn onto finals in a curved descent. At 160 put gear down and push prop lever fully forward. Drop flaps at 140 and then concentrate on rate of descent and throttle. Aiming for 90mph and 10' over the threshold and then chop throttle and gentle back pressure on stick. At this point in BoS I can actually let go of the stick and it will land. If all goes well you should get one - Spitfire - bounce and you're then on the roll out. What I really, really like about the DCS Spitty - and the 'Stang too - is the immediate throttle response. This is in marked contrast to BoS. A successful BoS landing is much more of a controlled glide to touch down whereas DCS aircraft can be 'driven' onto the ground on the throttle - much better! Takeoffs? Since I'm still not sure how to trim for takeoff or what throttle settings to use, takeoff in the Spit requires the full width of the runway and any handy, adjacent open ground as I veer to the left and porpoise into the air. There then follows a brief period of fighting with the controls to get the nose down whilst retracting the gear and trying to get the engine under control. I then need around twenty miles of clear air to get the bloody thing trimmed to fly in something approaching a straight line in level flight. After that I can then fly formation - great throttle response makes that bit easier too Takeoff in the Spit? Tis' a mystery to me
