  1. As long as your router has NAT (Network Address Translation) enabled, you should be fine, although I always backup my router with a software firewall, either Windows Firewall included in SP2 or Nortons Internet Security (or Zone Alarm, or whatever you wish.) Some software firewalls are better then others, but NIS and ZA are among the top of the list in my opinion. The more layers of defense you have, the harder it will be for hackers to get in. That is however a double-edged sword...as you will have to provide a path through all that defense for programs like games servers, etc.
  2. I wanna scare you guys, but haven't figured out how to post my pic on this forums thingy.
  3. Whether I'm playing Guild Wars, PF, WW2 Fighters, B-17, JOIC or AA, I always as a rule of thumb shutdown all messengers, and only have open what I need. If I have just one messenger (Yahoo, MSN, etc,) then one message tends to crash the game or at the least take away from precious bandwidth.
  4. I tried Cacheman...didnt workout as well for me. My system runs pretty fast anyways. My CPU is basically an FX53 with locked Multipliers..so memory optimization is gonna be minimal. Athlon 4000+ SanDiego 2.4Ghz 2 GB PC3200 CAS 2.5 ASUS A8V Deluxe w/ K8T800 Pro GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB 8X AGP 2 x 80 GB Western Digital SATA 150 HDDs in RAID 0 Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 500W PSU 8 x 80mm fans
  5. The first backup you / Ghost will do is a FULL backup or image in which it copies EVERYTHING. From there, as long as you tell it do, it will do Incremental or Differetial backups. Difference between the 2 is the Incremental backups only adds any new files and directories to the existing FULL backup. A Differential backup simply records any changes you made to the backed up image. Ghost is also a great way to make a restore CD for your PC. Load the OS, Service Packs, Drivers and all patches, games, programs, etc, as you would use them. Then make a complete image of your hard drive. Then if your system gets hosed by a virus or one of the many other nasty bugs lurking about , you simply pop in your restore CD, and POOF!!! - you're backup and running in only a fraction of the time it would take to do a full install from scratch.
  6. I also have a copy of the Everst Home edition setup if ya'll want me to upload it let me know.
  7. ok...now that I got that down, how can I set it so that the player gets a choice of aircraft in which to fly? So like say we could have multiple bomber pilots practicing formation flying, carpet bombing, and so forth, or say fighter training.
  8. Not really sure what happened...but its all fine. saved ok...now I just gotta go in and make it to where the stationary ships Im using for decoration dont fire on and destroy the targets at the gunnery/bombing range. Should be a useful training map when its all said and done...it's big enough it could even be used as a Axis v Allies type friendly dogfight map with ooposing forces flying in from 2 different ends of the island.
  9. I am creating a new map for training. However when saving, I get a save error which says "Chief '0 chief' only has one waypoint. The only thing I assigned waypoints to is players. Everything else is stationary. Why do I keep getting this error!
  10. SiSoftware Sandra is pretty good at it also
  11. I see it as little more then a pipe dream for MS, since there's no way they can tell whos changing out motherboards unless everyone tells them. I have changed out 2 motherboards in this PC, and use the same license. With WinVista expected to cost approx $400+/unit, I think they should be happy Linux hasnt stolen more business from them.
  12. I use 2 x 80 GB SATA drives in RAID 0...and the load times on ALL my games decreased by 50%. I also have 2 GB RAM to help lower pagefile usage.
  13. Actually, I can play bass OR guitar rather well, but I was the bassist of my band for 14 years. We might even have some music left over from the only album we ever cut. Here are 5 songs off our album... http://www.garageband.com/artist/suspicion_denied
  14. I don't have money to buy another game right now, so looks like I'll have to keep training on my own till I can afford it.
  15. Hey guys...thought I would take your offer up on joining. After looking over the roster and stuff, i kinda like the idea of no "ranks", just a bunch of guys flying together. However, The application appears to not work. Is something else I gotta do?
  16. These cards are all ISA network cards...some Token Ring, most 10BaseT...all of this stuff is kinda obsolete, but if anyone wants it feel free...I live in Evansville, Indiana, USA.
  17. You can call me AMD if ya want...'General_Stewart' was just something I came up with on the fly. AMDfan is also the name I use when playing Guild Wars.
  18. AMD does in fact have something up their sleeves. All I can tell you at this point is that AMDs quad core will be a mobo with 2 sockets for 2 dual core FX series CPUs (which are packaged as 2 dual cores per box). Just because Intel has taken the lead in the CPU race means nothing...AMD has made such technological leaps since the introduction of the SlotA Athlon CPUs that I feel they would never be in the back seat for very long. for more information on AMDs quad-core solution... http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/11/30/ ... uad_cores/
  19. If the laptop is running a FAT32 file system, and target PC (PC you are moving files to) is NTFS file system, the laptop wont be able to see the target PC. You will have to be at target PC to pull the required files through the net, just make sure they are shared.
  20. I have a entire metal shelf unit full of legacy parts literally 100s of ISA cards, NICs, Sound Cards, 6 AT PSUs, Cases with MOBOs installed (not tested) several Pentium, Pentium Pro, 486 era CPUs, 100s of 30 and 72-pin memory sticks (must be installed in matching pairs) and a few small hard drives. I may put them on Ebay, but if anyone wants em...pay the shipping, and its yours.
