  1. I would like to report a new German wonder weapon - their scientists seem to have come up with a way of attaching a rubber band - or bungee rope to their aircraft, which can then be fired at yours, backwards if necessary, and on making contact it sticks to your aircraft and pulls their aircraft into yours to destroy you in one swoop via a collision.

The German pilot goes down too with this weapon - but in a blaze of glory, and is posthumously awarded the Knights Cross with Cabbage Leaves and Broccoli for the successful destruction of an Allied Aircraft using the "rubber band" method.

Other 485th pilots saw this amazing new wonder weapon in action last night - so be warned, either it is true, or we have all been at Artie's moonshine again and are suffering from hallucinations 😲

Well I suppose that is one way of doing it 402nd....

The 485th prefer the “only half the squadron makes it back in one piece with a hop skip and jump finale terminating on the grass” method !
Also giving the ground crew audience value for money is important to us, making the landings last at least 10 minutes is always preferable.

Well, if we are being honest here Major Painless, lets be 100% honest. The truth is we sometimes "help" ensure that only half the squadron gets back because you, Arty and I don't like sharing those British Waaf's that have been brought in to run the air base. There aren't enough to go round, so we had to get rid of a couple of chaps you know - otherwise it wouldn't be fair 😉

  3. As a recent recruit - in a similar situation as you - although not American- ahem - I would certainly recommend it. I also have a super busy life, so cannot commit to the number of nights that some squads demand. The onus here really is - whenever you can make it we are happy to see you - and that is simply the truth, and whenever I do turn up - I have plenty of fun.

The only thing that may concern you - being from the U.S. is that we have several Canadians flying with us - all of whom are top notch though 😃

  4. Thank you @Sid, kind of you to overlook the imperfections 😃

It is free hand airbrushing using MRP lacquers. Using a cheap airbrush as well, the AK Interactive Airbrush is only £30 or so, and works really well.

@Painless It is the Revell 1/32 offering. 1/32 is my favourite scale. I can handle 1/48, but my fat fingers struggle with anything smaller, so I try to stick to 1/32.

I don't think I will be weathering too much out of it. Will see how I feel when I get to that point, but I tend not to weather them too much unless the original subject I am trying to get right was heavily weathered.

As I said in this case, it is more of a practice mottle thing :)

  5. Thought I would drop in and show you my latest/current build. This has fought me all the way, have had major fit issues, so much filler used here, but finally getting there. Finished spraying the mottle last night. I am not following the mottle markings on the instructions exactly for the markings I am using. This build has primarily been a practice for mottling as it is my first mottle job - so havent been as petty about exactly matching the historic markings as I usually am with my other builds.

Once this is done, my first NMF is being attempted with Trumpeter's P47D. Also my first Trumpeter kit. Last/previous build was the amazing Airfix 1/24 Typhoon👍

The major problem I have - is I have nowhere left to put my built models 😭

    1. Mission Count: If you attend spawn, but disconnect, PWCG logs this as a mission credit to you, even if you left prior to takeoff. This will appear on the 'Roster' screenshot. However, when I manually edit the speadsheet I use to create the scoreboard I only credit the mission against you if you took off and engaged the enemy as I feel this is a more realistic reflection of how operational sorties were logged.

IIRC there was one mission where you either could not start or disconnected prior to takeoff  - PWCG has logged this a mission, I however have not.

    2. Victory Count: where I'd muffed up the AAR process and forgot to log yours and FTs kills and thought I'd managed to correct and reward to you by being clever - turned out I wasn't as clever as I had thought. The edits didn't reconcile somewhere and prevented PWCG from continuing the career, and over the xmas break we had 2 missions that would not progress to the next day. I eventually traced it to the edits I had made to try and award your kill. Thus for the sake of the campaign I have had to redact that kill in PWCG. However, what this means is that your Scoreboard Victory Count should now always be +1 on your Roster Victory Count. Which I see it is not. This is my mistake and can only attribute to doing these rather late at night or several days after the event and forgetting to account for the unusual circumstance of your current tally, so my apologies, I will update the Scoreboard forthwith.

@DD_Fenrir- no need to apologise at all old chap, I fully understand now, thank you. I appreciate the work and time you put on to getting this done for us all, I know only too well how much time that takes. 👍 We all love you for it ❤️

I have to take some of the blame for the long nose/ short nose FW ID issue Reggie. I remember getting hit head on by an FW which I convinced myself was an Anton not a Dora. I also thought it was the EA you kindly shot down shortly afterwards (excellent). Perhaps it was not the same EA or perhaps I miss IDed it myself as it was a brief but beautiful head on. As for the “ foreigner” thing you are right, we are very suspicious of those non British types, especially the Canadians ! 🤣🤣🤣😂

Right, in that case, tomorrow I shall try to put on my best posh pommie accent and see if I can gain your trust while being undercover as a bona fide Englishman.🤔

Actually, considering I am the first on my Dad's side of the family to be born outside a 5 mile radius of Skipton in North Yorkshire in 800 years, I feel pretty English 😁

  8. Thank you kindly for the scoreboard - am I allowed to point out a minor query I have as I a little confused?

The post mission scores blackboard posted on 15th December show that was my 10th mission, and I had 3 confirmed kills.

The actual scoreboard posted on 15th December shows 9 missions and 3 kills.

The latest scoreboard shows the same, this should be my 11th Mission and 4 confirmed kills. I am not sure if it is PWG or what but things don't seem to be correctly updating on my pilot, unless I am missing something 😲

Also - for those doubters at post ops briefing last week - I told you my kill was a long nose 190 - none of you believed me, probably 'cos I am foreign - don't worry, I am used to it 😁

It's even installed and ready for use on our server, not currently running though ... there appears to be no need for it within our group.

We got TS, which works fine for our purposes. If you have a need for more realistic radio, crackling and stuff, then it could add to the immersion.

True that you can't operate the radio in IL2 - but as FT says, the added immersion of the radio quality would be cool. I know there is a W2 sound effect addon for TS - which I have, but it has never worked properly for me sadly.
