Personally, as I only get one or two evenings a week free I tend to focus on what I'm enjoying the most, which has been the P-38 campaign and DCS on a Thursday for a good a while now.

This is where I am at at the moment too I am afraid, difficult to make more than 1 or 2 nights a week for me - and stay both employed and married 😁

  2. Chaps, I hope you got my tally for last night. I claim 1 x German Spy disguised as a member of our Ground Crew. Stupid bugger walked across the taxiway as I was taxying past straight into my engine, resulting in engine damage. 🤬

I know this, because I have just pulled his wallet out of my engine intake - his name is apparently Hans Von Pratt 😁

To be honest, I had no idea the "human" models had any kind of collision/damage model and didn't even try to avoid him, thinking I would just pass through him. There was no big explosion, or jarring halt or anything of the sort, it looked like I did just pass through him, and then about 5 seconds later, I had warnings of engine damage on the side that hit him. Very frustrating as I was looking forward to last night 😰

Hope you all did well - but none of you got the notorious Nazi spy, Hans Von Pratt - only me - I am the spy catcher 😂

Looking forward to the next one as Capt Les Payne. Apparently he has chiselled good looks and is hung like baboon 👍🏻

Major Tom :    Requsting 1st Lt Reggie Nailed as my new wingman if possible.

Have to say Les Payne, sir, I hope you are not "hung like a Baboon, their "overhanging bit" is not very attractive you know.

Secondly, it would be an honour to be your wingman should Top Brass see fit to allow it :salute:

Good evening guys, I'm just outside of Manchester in leafy Cheshire but I'm originally from Cape Town.

Ooooh, that's it now chaps - you are being colonised by the Africans 🤣

Welcome aboard Seagoon, will look forward to hearing whether you sound like Cheshire or Cape Town - can you do a good Cape Coloured Ek se?

    😁

  5. Quick question chaps, after my sad demise last night, is there any chance of a skin change?

I am not a skinner myself, but wonder if there is any chance one of you kind chaps may be able to throw together a NMF skin for me with a new noseart I can provide? If not, I will stick with my current OD skin and resurrect it.

Also, not sure if the framerate issue is something I need to look at more closely re pc performance or not - it was pretty dire last night. To be honest, I should have known the evening was going to go the way it did, I should have taken the fact all my controls were screwy and had to be remapped in the practice server as an omen 🤔

May I suggest some navigational training Sir? Or maybe geography class? Some history lesson?

You squadron was flying and fighting over Dutch territory. Occupied by the German forces in 1940, until May 1945-ish.

    :shaunv2:

Too true - I knew we were in Holland because I was flying so low I could see the wooden clogs on the farm workers' feet 😁

@Painless - thank you for the gifting of the enemy a/c last night, to be honest I am thoroughly enjoying flying as your wingman, the teamwork is working well, so thank you for that. 👍

I have also gained a real appreciation for the P38 - she is a great bird. I understand how Robin Olds felt when he got his P51 - and loved it, but still pined for, and missed his P38 😃

  7. Thanks guys, I have looked at the MB - XMP is enabled, I have run the Benchmark, and the PC seems to score pretty well - results here:

    UserBenchmarks: Game 92%, Desk 90%, Work 79%
    CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K - 83.5%
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 - 107.9%
    SSD:  HFS250G32TND-N1A0A 250GB - 103.1%
    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB (2016) - 76.9%
    RAM: Crucial CT8G4DFD8213.C16FBR2 2x8GB - 73.5%
    MBD: Gigabyte GA-Z270-Gaming K3

  8. Hi FT - yes, I have an external powered hub which the X55 is now exclusively using. Next time I fly will tell me how much (if any) difference this has made.

Regarding other spec of the machine - here it is :)

I think CPU should be ok. I know GPU is the major thing - but these aren't available, and cost a freaking fortune, £800+ for a GPU is out of the question right now - so I will leave that for now. Mother in Law is coming to live with us in a few months and all money is going into extending the house to make room for her. Will be paying that one off for some years yet :(

  9. Hi All,

Some advice sought here - I have been having some issues with "ghost key presses" on my X55 that some of you know about, this may require additional power, but I am trying a couple of other things first before I spend cash on a Power Supply, I would hope my 600w is enough for now.

On the other hand, I have been noticing that things these days are needing more and more RAM - I have 16Gb at the moment, but have been having some performance issues in IL2 even offline. After seeing my RAM is also only 2133Mhz, and my MB can support up to 64Gb of RAM at 3800Mhz I am considering upgrading my RAM to 32Gb of 3600Mhz RAM.

Are any of you chaps pc hardware gurus that can tell me whether this is a worthwhile investment or not? Any advice/suggestions gladly received. 😁

  10. Love this page on Facebook, something new and interesting almost daily. This one was pretty shocking, we see people chatting about realism of oil stains in sims - and I have read books by pilots who talk about having to be talked down/not able to see at all due to oil stains - but this picture really brought it home to me how crazy some of these stains can be. Cause of oil = direct AA hit to the engine which shattered 2 of the cylinders.

    P47 - Oil Leak.

485th were tasked with destroying transport on the ground near to Düsseldorf. I lead a flight of four and Capt Rea led a flight of two with a special friend he met in a bar recently ?

We climbed to angels 9 carrying 6x500lb each, with a view to dive bombing our target initially to minimise AAA opportunities. Having spotted no flying bosh at all, (the case for the entire mission), we arrived over the target free of holes and apprehension so it was to be line astern for Red flight and White Flight to stay high just in case. After a brief reminder on how to set your aircraft up for a diving attack in we went.... full of confidence I chose a pretty steep angle, air brakes out, zero throttle and max RPM...

..... released two bombs at 4000ft then pulled out in the pre arranged direction all pleased and shift. To my horror, 2nd Lt HP Pookie pulled out just enough to pancake his aircraft at Mach 1 and by a miracle survive. Closely followed by 2nd Lt Clarice Starling who was not so lucky. I can only apologise if the steepness of my attack was a contributing factor to these tragic events chaps. We have done precious little practice in the way of dive bombing the P38, unfortunately it has to be done just so to avoid disaster.
On reflection I would have either conducted a low level shallow dive attack or dive bombed at no more than a 60deg angle having reinforced the need to drop no lower than 3000 - 4000ft.

After such a traumatic start I have to say that the remaining four aircraft conducted a magnificent game of bash the bosh absolutely hammering ground targets including two airfields one of which was Düsseldorf.
Capt Rea was on fire, killing 10 xAAA and his wingman Brams did a similarly impressive job. As a couple they were worthy of the front cover of Vogue Magazine... awesome chaps !

2nd Lt Jean Artage also hammered AAA with great derring -do and aplomb actually stealing German ammunition from the third reich, hiding it in his aircraft. He was forced to land at Venlo airbase due to the extra weight. Capt Rea escorted him to a safe landing then joined myself and Brams for a three ship home coming.

Brilliant show chaps - and Major Painless you are a dab hand at AAR's - you should write for Viz magazine 🤣
