MadTrooper Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Check the first video at 6:50 to see the manoeuvre I'm talking about. Its great stuff. I got these links on the RoF forum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zpxOJncVmw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2omFiiJUuc&feature=related MT Quote
Mayhem Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Ah, don't get me started. I have had arguments with individuals over things like this. Haven't seen anyone do this exact maneuver horizontally in ROF but I have see someone do the same thing with just a sharp pull back of the stick to get them in the vertical plane before rotating, sort of like a hammerhead but no where near stall. The turn was performed in the blink of an eye and effectively reversed his heading 180 deg in about 2 seconds. The only problem he had was that I was so hot on hit tail, after reversing he couldn't level out fast enough to get a shot at me, but if I had been just a bit farther back he could have. Still it made for a tricky evasive move. The pilot I was dogfighting made beautiful consistent maneuvers in that DR1, I was quite impressed. I in my Camel however, had to shoot him down anyway. Still his flying was visually spectacular and you could tell he knew what he was doing. Quote
Flyboy583 Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 WOW... Can you image being in a S.E.5 and encountering a DR1 for the first time preforming those maneuvers??? I think a serious case of brown pants maybe Quote

The thought of running into a whole flight of those had to be running through their minds. Quote
Flyboy583 Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 That is what amazes me of the speed of aircraft design in WW1 aviation.. If you survived long enough I fear you had that feeling a few times..... Quote
MadTrooper Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 Just for the fun of it I have tried to replicate this manoeuvre on a DR1 yesterday afternoon and I could'nt do it. It is impossible to do, in RoF anyways unless your a magician Propnut told me that he also tried it without any success. I mean, I don't think that it is physically possible to do this. Look at the video again and like you said he was nowhere near stall. He had the energy to move forward rightaway on his new direction, hmmm...... something looks fishy there. Quote
Mayhem Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Well, I was going to say something earlier but didn't want to get bashed for it. Just look at the first 15 seconds of the second video. Is it just me or do Dogfight's physics seem a little off? I'm no aerodynamics or physics expert but that plane seems to be doing a wicked tailwhip. Also check out the climb rates on those videos, those planes act like rockets. Some of the role rates look too high and some of the high G maneuvers look like they would tare those planes apart. Great videos, fun to watch, but I think they throw a little 'Hollywood' in there to liven it up. Quote
