Warning! This mission is not historically accurate!

Date: 03.14.1918.

A training flight of Fokker EIIIs got lost and wandered across the lines. Thinking that our aerodrome was one of theirs they landed in thedark hours of this morning with just fumes in their petrol tanks. The German officer in charge of the training flight, Leutnant Blumen Kind...some type of conscientious objector, was so grateful to surrender that he divulged a bit of information to us. It seems that a resupply train is heading to our sector of the front. The fighting has been so fierce that the Hun has decided to dig in and hold the line rather than expand their breakthrough. If we can destroy that resupply train we may be able to counter-attack and retake Toul! Unfortunately the German air patrols are too strong for our lads to get to the target. But, if a flight of German planes were to fly toward the target they might be able to destroy the train and return before the Hun is the wiser!

The Eindeckers are fueled up and ready for takeoff. Lt. Blumen Kind has marked out the location of the train, and the roudevous point with the trucks, on your maps. Get out there and destroy those supplies!

I will send two SE5a's out with you but they are to stay high and out of sight, they will be your air cover after the attack.

After Action Report:

Our boys found and smashed that Hun locomotive! The Eindecker is slower in the air than our pilots are used to and so we were late finding the train, it was just pulling into the depot when we tracked it down. Despite murderous Archie fire we were able to destroy the train and all of its cargo! Oh good show!

The Eindeckers, led by Mad Trooper, then proceeded to destroy the trucks that had been waiting to load up the badly needed Hun supplies, poor Wolfie, no supper for you tonight! WolpP (no relation to Wolfie) and Joebob (yes, probably closely related to Wolfie) provided cover to our intrepid ground attack pilots, constantly searching for Hun airplanes. With eagle eyes peels they waited above while the Fokker DVII's attacked our Eindeckers in an attempt to save the few remaining transport vehicles. Propnut, Sparky, CaptJack, Gustang, A.P. Hill and MadTrooper were more than a match for the pesky Bosch! Propnut and A.P. Hill both downed a DVII while two others collided in a clumsy attempt to match the slow turning speed of the Eindeckers! WolfP and Joebob, finally, dove down to dispatch the remaining enemy craft. Unfortunatly Joebob neglected to put on his pop-bottle glasses this morning and rammed into our fearless leader MadTrooper sending both planes to collide with the unforgiving soil, Madtrooper will be missed. Alone WolfP took on the task of escorting the Eindeckers back to base where our heroic pilots landed their aircraft. The only mishap on the return trip was Propnut who flipped his plane over on the landing field after running into Joebob's bicycle, which was thoughtlessly left at the end of the runway. A hazard to all.

Tune in next week when our hero's take on The Moon Men Of Mars!

I should mention that we flew several mission after the one above and more DD pilots joined us (as well as a few WH guests, thanks to WH_WolfP, WH_Joebob, and WH_Sparky). The pilot roster of DD members were Propnut, Gustang, CaptJack, A.P. Hill, MadTrooper, and Squawk.

It was a great turnout overall and hopefully we can entice more pilots to join us on comms to fly. One of these weekends it would be great if we could schedule an afternoon flight so that those in other timezones could also participate.

Thanks again to everyone that joined us.

Thanks Propnut, it was great fun :) and its always a pleasure to fly this sim with good camarades. You know I have come to realise that I love long missions in ROF. Time goes by so quickly, checking everywhere, admiring the country side, get to the objective and land back to base. It really make you feal like you have accomplish something :)
