DD_Brando Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Looking good Pooka I can't comment much about Intel 'cos I'm a dedicated AMD 'fanboi' Quote
Perfesser Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I have a core duo 2.66 CPU and I was thinking it's time for a little more speed. Dunno if the quad core will make much difference in IL2. Maybe price out a faster chip? Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted December 27, 2009 2. Administrators Posted December 27, 2009 Dunno if the quad core will make much difference in IL2 None I'm afraid m8, IL2 was written to run on single core machines, and it doesn't know how to take advantage of a multicore system. Your h/w though, that's a different matter. Multicore systems with 64-bit OS's can be very quick indeed, which will have a direct impact on startup & shutdown speeds, amongst other things. Just as an example, my rig running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit is 20% faster (via PassMark) than the same rig running Windows XP Pro 32-bit. That's quite a lot in my view and I've had no serious driver issues with my joystick, TIR etc etc etc. Jabo Quote
Perfesser Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Then for older games like IL2 you want a chip with faster speed, not so much more cores at slower speed. Maybe price out the 3.0 or 3.16 Mhz chip then Quote
Trout Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Perf, while Snacko is correct that IL2 can only utilize one core, there is something you can do to at least get " a little extra" out have having a multi core comp. Quote
MadTrooper Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 hum.. did not know you could assign a core to run IL2 specifically. I have an Intel® Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 Ghz. I'll monitor this post to see if someone could tell me how to do this. Thanks. Quote

Thanks. find this in your conf.ini [rts] ;ProcessAffinityMask=1 and edit to [rts] ProcessAffinityMask=2 value 2 will cause your game to run on the second core. value 1 on the first one. but there is still a lot of discussions about ProcessAffinity. http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23104 http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2673111/1.html Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted December 27, 2009 2. Administrators Posted December 27, 2009 There is another way to do this by setting the 'Affinity' of the process (in Task Manager) to run in one core. I have mine set up like this to run the IL2FB.exe on core 1 and TS on core 2 Quote
1. DDz Quorum Pooka Posted December 28, 2009 Author 1. DDz Quorum Posted December 28, 2009 I went with the components mentioned above and all should be here within a week. Quote
Perfesser Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I went 64 bit a few months ago and had no problems with drivers or anything. Somewhere they talk about how much memory IL2 uses. 64 bit can boost that to 4Gb with the Ultra 2.0. That alone is worth it. Quote
