BadAim Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 It's 1 degree here in Connecticut. This is the place of which Mark Twain said "If you don't like the weather, wait a Minute it'll change". It hasn't changed a bit in 150 years, the weather report is just an educated guess, at best. Quote
T_O_A_D Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 "If you don't like the weather, wait a Minute it'll change". Believe me Connecticut doesn't have a Monopoly on that statement. Samuel Clemens was from my State ya know. Quote
Sweper Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Wow, that´s cold! I suggest not to pee outside under such circumstances Quote
Ovy Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Man THAT is cold... Here the blizzard raised havoc on roads and railroads. A standard 3hrs traintrip having a 26 hrs delay. People complaining on TV and radio but without realising that untill the bilzzard stops (or calms down) there is nothing to be done. Check this one: the bus gets stranded in a snow covered road. The local authorities sent a grader - it got stuck as well . Another grader was sent after a few attempts to drag the first one it broke down. Then the Army sent a BTU - it did not even make it to the crash zone Quote
BadAim Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Squawk, that is impressive. I can't imagine working under those conditions. If this global warming keeps up, I'm gonna have to get used to the thought. Quote
Jediteo Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Just got home, and it is like Ice Station Zebra here, -20c. Quote
DD_Arthur Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Whilst the rest of the UK has snow, here in the south-west its raining (yawn) but as an added bonus the rain washes away all the salt and grit they lay on the roads and then freezes over night and hey presto! Bowling with automobiles the next morning. Quote
Zooly Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 3 major snow showers yesterday left around 4-5in of snow and last night temp dropped to -5 (bloody freezing but possibly quite pleasant to what the USA and Canada are experiencing right now) so the roads are treacherous and not a gritting lorry in sight. Quote
Tribunus Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Today, we should be right around 20C (68F). By the end of the week, they're forecasting a high of around 24C (75F). Quote

Cold_Gambler Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 My wife wants you to know that you have "just the most charming little house", Delta. I agree. It also looks like you've done a lovely job restoring/maintaining the wood/glass and detailing... shame the neighbour hasn't done the same. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, D. C_G Quote
Blairgowrie Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Very nice Dave. Love the stained glass windows. Is that sandstone slab? Very scottish. Quote
Tonar Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Nice pad Dave, Snow this morning and a balmy 0 deg C here in Denver, Quote
delta7 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Thanks Guys The house is over 100yrs old, built in the 1890s. It is sandstone exterior with a slate roof . The stain glass is a replacement we put in. It is custom built based on a design on one of the origonal interior doors. We have tried to be sympathetic to the interior and exterior and renovated it back to origonal as far as possible. When it was built the town was a port and timber importer so it was well finished in good timber. It had the most amazing wooden floorboards but we had to cover these due to wanton vandalism when the last owners Quote
Cold_Gambler Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 You've done a wonderful job. The house looks beautiful. Quote
JensenPark Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 get out and shovel the drive already... Quote
