I just did the same thing.

I just let it install IL2 in the default.

The Ubisoft folder in Program Files has almost nothing in it. 8 files

The Ubisoft folder in Program Files(x86) has the game installed, maybe that's what they meant?

I found some things (custom mouse button assignments) didn't work unless I "run program as administrator".

I've been screwing around with any user permission settings I can find to run every thing as admin.

click start button and type in UAC in the search box. click on "change user account settings" and slide the ... how ever it is called ... all the way down. that's it.

I run IL2 from a separate drive without any issues, and no changes to Win 7 security either.

I read that there is a Permissions security issue with programs writing data directly into any folder in the Program Files folder.

I tend to steer clear of either program files folder for older software in general. New stuff seems to work OK (RoF etc).

Mine's arranged as follows (Contents in brackets after drive letter)

Drive 1: C:\ (Windows 7) & D:\

I have mine setup similar Jabo.

I have:

C: (Windows 7 OS)

D: My Documents (All personal files, ie music, videos, photos, Documents ect..)

E: Ghost image of C: and a periodic backup of D:

I did as I stated above, and ran the 'a.exe' from the CD with Admin privileges and installed it to my own folder here: C:\My Programs\Ubisoft\IL2 Sturmovik 1946.

OK, that will be fine - just keep the install away from any of the system folders, and you can't go too far wrong.
