Jediteo Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 As some of you may know I have started experiencing connection difficulties ever since I moved back to england. I did not have these issues, even though it is the same room, same ISP. I sent them an email, and this is the reply I recieved : Hi Teodor, We do not exactly block / unblock certain ports. You are behind a NAT firewall that will only allow incoming connections which are related to an already established connection. This basically means that if some software on your computer initiates a connection then any related traffic coming back through our gateway will be allowed, but if for instance somebody tried to connect to your computer via a service such as FTP this would be blocked by our firewall. The only disadvantage from this that I can think of is that it will prevent you running most types of servers as the incoming connections would be blocked before they even reached your machine, Quote
Blairgowrie Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Jedi. Most probably your firewall. What are you using? Quote
Jediteo Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 None, actually. I use AVG as an antivirus, and did not change a thing since I left home. Quote
gec Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 some dsl routers have built in firewall. you could check for that also. Quote
Jediteo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 As I do not have access to the router, anyone have any idea of circumventing this, or would I have to contact the ISP again, and tell them to fix it somehow? Quote
Blairgowrie Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Jedi. I would give Gec or FT access to your computer. I am sure either of them would find the issue quickly. Quote
1. DDz Quorum FoolTrottel Posted September 30, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted September 30, 2009 Can only think of one thing: Check conf.ini [Net] section, you're using a different (local) IP address now than before, at home. Maybe the old address is still listed somewhere in there? Quote
Jediteo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Which one should I use, the default, or the internal one? Quote
Jediteo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Ok I have changed that value, localhost to my IP. Now I just need someway of checking it. Other than that I will have to use xfire or something. Quote
1. DDz Quorum FoolTrottel Posted September 30, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted September 30, 2009 When you're not hosting, there should be no IP address in that section at all. Just empty values, like this: remoteHost= socksHost= localHost= Quote
1. DDz Quorum FoolTrottel Posted September 30, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted September 30, 2009 I could setup a host, but I'd have to open my Router first... that'd be a first for me... lol Quote
1. DDz Quorum FoolTrottel Posted September 30, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted September 30, 2009 Wait, I can retrieve the IP of a HL server in a minute, you should be able to connect to that one w/o issues. I'll pick a 4.09m MOD friendly one... hold on Quote
1. DDz Quorum FoolTrottel Posted September 30, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted September 30, 2009 Server called 'simfreaks'... 87.154.121.254, 4.09m... it's empty, you won't be bothering anyone. Quote
Jediteo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 IT IS ALIVE. Yes, my computer lives again on the virtual skies, thank you FT. As the modern adage goes, You the man. Hail to the king from Holland. Quote
Jediteo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Damned if I know, all I did was to change the IP. Very complicated and temperamental game this, you could almost argue it has two X chromosomes. Quote
