Virus protecton help

Ok. I'm up getting things going on the new machine. Finally got my Internet access working, but the Windows Live One Care that is provided by my ISP will not install. It says that I have an incompatible Operating System.

What virus protection software do those of you running XP Professional x64 use?

I am evaluating Avira now, for my XP64.

Got a 90 Day trial, and so far it's fine.

Check your ISP home site.

Mine offers an F-secure online scan through their website.

I haven't had a virus scanner installed on my computer for years. Firewall yes, spyware yes.

Have any of you other FireFox users noticed that down loads pause and a message says 'Scanning'?

I noticed this on a test system without AV installed and thought 'cool FireFox has some sort of AV capability'.

WRONG!

It is a bug in FireFox, even with AV installed it is not a guarantee that it is scanning apparently.
