I finally got the link to work and it was downloading at a blazing 23kb a sec. Approximate download time 2hr and 39min. Think I'll wait for awhile and try later.

Opened the zip and found some files and stuff but don't see anykind of installer. Hmmmm, I guess it's because it's beta and stuff? Oh well, I'll wait until someone smarter than me post a "How to make it go" instruction.

Also, there will be another download for additional skins that I have not seen a link for yet. Apparently it is being uploaded to Filefront now.

If you want to install replacement skins then download

409b1m_skins.zip and install over the map pack.

fb_3do20.sfs from the map pack have to be overwritten.

Ok, I think I did it right. I just unzipped it to my game folder and let it overwrite any files/folders. Started up game ok and had the beta version on splash screen but have not actually given it a try.

Defiantly heed BG's advice and make a backup copy of your game folder. It has saved me more than once.

Yes Mobius. You should get the Beta patch but make sure you copy the game first.

I was able to download and install today after flying. I got my downloads from Mission 4 today and they were incredibly fast over 1000 kb a second. I'll get a link and post it here shortly.

You need two downloads. First the patch and then the skins and they have to be installed in that order. http://www.mission4today.com/index.php? ... ls&id=3199

Once you get the patch just click on the 4.09 skin pack link highlighted in blue in the middle of the page.

make sure you do it in a backup folder. i dont know about seow compatability.

I just renamed my copy IL2 409 and unzipped the files into that then renamed the exe to IL2 409 and sent a copy to desktop. Bada Bing! two games two versions.

And BTW, the Slovakia map is freakin awesome: I just flew around all night last night. and the 75k sight distance is awesome to the tenth power......unfortunately it definitely bends my 7800GTX's back, I fear what will happen with other planes on a populated map. I'm thinking that the entry price 75k world is a 512MB card minimum (as Oleg admitted), but its a wonderful world.

Did you change your settings in Conf. ini?

Modify your conf.ini string in the [Render_OpenGL] section

to use this mode:

LandGeom=3 (new mode is ON)

LandGeom=2 (back to normal mode).
