usually in xp if you get the blue screen the machine will reboot automatically and you wont have time to read the error, however the message is written to a file and you can read this with a free microsoft tool - anyway this article tells you how

You can also set your computer to not automatically reboot; In forget exactly how right now, but I think that it's a BIOS setting.

Right Click your My Computer icon on your desktop and click Properties.

Click the Advanced Tab

Click Settings under Startup and recovery.

Uncheck the Automatically Restart checkbox.
