Klinger Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Painless can host for ~12 people, and he is looking to push this up to 15. A m8 reckoned the Standard MS tcp/ip setup is 'throttled' in some way by default. He suggested this : http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php as a way of unlocking the extra hosting capability. Has anyone heard of this? Any good, or a can of worms ? Cheers. Quote
Blairgowrie Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Painless any good or can of worms? When I was on dial up, I tried everything to get better speed including TCP/IP optimizers like these. As far as I could tell they didn't do squat. Quote
Klinger Posted December 8, 2007 Author Posted December 8, 2007 Painless would be the first to admit that he is a can of worms . Too bad the optimizer is ineffective. Thanks for the info Jim. Quote
JensenPark Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I heard Painless' wife took him to the vet to get de-wormed Quote
BBloke Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I think the worst thing on hosting is TS. Quote
Klinger Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 In that case it sounds like he is at the practical limit for a UK 10 meg connection. I just wondered how BG and DT can host for 32 players, as in SEOW. Do you gents have a 30 meg connection, or do you have a better setup? Quote
BBloke Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 IIRC I had a 32kb upload when I hosted 13 players. Quote

I have a very high upload bandwidth Kling with a fairly low latency. Quote
Klinger Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 The penny has dropped m8. Your upload speed is about 10 times that of Painless. I guess theres no way to increase our upload speed reasonably cheaply? We're on Virgin Cable. Quote
BBloke Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Just looked at TS and the ready room is set to Speedx 25.9. Quote
