I personally have left the settings alone, and have learnt to 'fly' with them as is.

It is very easy to be distracted by thoughts of 'I don't have my settings right' when the focus could be better placed with 'these are the default, lets get me working with them.'

Yes tweaks can accommodate particular controllers vagaries, just don't get lost in the maze of 'I ain't got my joystick set right' when reality is getting the 'feeling' for what you have.

Only time and experience will impart what you need, there is no shortcut, use the visual and audio cues to tell you when you have exceeded the flight envelope of your AC.
