BBloke Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I've decided to list some of the tweaks that I've had done and still do when I reinstall XP and or feel that something a little extra can be done to get which ever game running a little better. Quote
Shadow Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Good share BBloke! Nice to have this kind of stuff all in on place. Instead of the XP disk clean up utility, though, I use a program called CCleaner. Quote
Klinger Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Thats good information BBloke, thanks. Got to agree about the AI chatter and subs. Would not be so bad if they EVER said anything useful, wakners! Quote
Shadow Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Got to agree about the AI chatter and subs. Would not be so bad if they EVER said anything useful, wakners! I disabled chatter, but kept two lines of subs. The reason being that running a monitor at high resolution effectively erases the dots. Quote

BBloke Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 File sharing should still work with or without passwords. Quote
1. DDz Quorum B16Enk Posted November 17, 2007 1. DDz Quorum Posted November 17, 2007 Err... Make sure you have the same accounts and passwords on all systems, then all will be fine. Otherwise you'll get access denied because the guest account is disabled by default now, and should remain so. This includes printer sharing too . Quote
BBloke Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 MM i have duplicate user names and passwords and all stops being fine if the guest account is disabled via the 'Manage' MMC. By default the guest account is disabled in User Accounts applet which as per MS restricts is log in abilities. MS advise never to share the root of your system drive and to consider read only access as an added security measure. I did try disabling the guest via mmc and it just wouldn't accept username, password as authenication to access a share point Quote
1. DDz Quorum B16Enk Posted November 18, 2007 1. DDz Quorum Posted November 18, 2007 Never had an issue if this guidline is followed: 1. All accounts must have a password. 2. All accounts are identical on all machines, same name same password. 3. All machines need to be in the same workgroup, usually mshome by default IIRC, check that under the computer properties, network name section. Change if required and restart when prompted. Then when you log on to a machine with account and password, then map a drive/connect to a resource (printer etc) your account details are passed via SMB and you validate on the 'server' machine transparently. If you get prompted for a password then there is a mismatch in accounts. Firewall needs to be checked to to ensure it is allowing the traffic for resource sharing. Quote
delta7 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I have updated my guide on mission4today here http://mission4today.com/index.php?name ... ase&cat=35 covers all areas of computers and il2 hopefully in terms that everyone can understand and get to grips with Quote
Rattler Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 hopefully in terms that everyone can understand and get to grips with It's not the terms, mate - it's the brogue we have trouble with! "Bloody Russian s h i t e!!" Nice job on the guide! Quote
Deputy Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Excellent suggestions!! I have one. I use a program called Auslogics Boost Speed and Auslogics Disk Defrag (both made in Australia). They are available seperately or together as a package. The Boost Speed program allows you to optimize internet connections, defrag the registry and a bunch of other utilities. The defrag program works a LOT better than the Windows defragger. Here's their website: http://www.auslogics.com/en/ The defrag program is free. The Boost Speed program you gotta pay for. Or...well.... Dep Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 17, 2008 2. Administrators Posted November 17, 2008 The defrag program is free. The Boost Speed program you gotta pay for. Or...well.... Dep And you a (former) member of the law-enforcement community as well...tsk tsk Quote
Deputy Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Heck....I didn't say anyone should do anything illegal or wrong. "Or...well"... I was just thinging about George Orwell and I typed it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it Quote
