Headcorn Aerodrome (26.6.11)

A few pictures from my local airfield, the former RAF Lashenden (A prototype ALG in 1943). It was briefly home to 421 and 403 Squadrons of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) flying the Spitfire IX before, on 17 April 1944 the 354th Fighter Group arrived from RAF Boxted. Wikipeadia has a pretty good entry on its history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lashenden_%28Headcorn%29_Airfield It is now one of the busiest GA airfields in the south of England, offering pleasure flights, skydiving, warbird experiences (AT-6) and the Tiger Club (www.tigerclub.co.uk) along with a fantastic little museum of many interesting artifacts, wrecks and relics of downed aircraft and such from the WW2 period. Oh and lovely Cafe! I grew up with this place on my doorstep, and still love going there to chill out and imagine what it was like nearly 70 years ago...

From the album: Headcorn Aerodrome (26.6.11)

Actually this Cessna (172?) was recently refurbished on site and it looks great... for a spam can.
I had a pleasure flight with the family when I was young in this very aircraft.
  8. From the album: Headcorn Aerodrome (26.6.11)

This French fighter has received some treatment over the years but generally suffers in the elements.
  9. From the album: Headcorn Aerodrome (26.6.11)

This poor jet has seen better days for sure.
It's been outside ever since I can remember, but the worst thing that happened to it was when a parachute plane failed to takeoff on the crosswind runway and crashed into it a few years ago. It skewed it 45 degrees and made a mess of the nose.
Unfortunately the pilot lost his life and the parachute plane was written off, very sad.
