  1. You're probably right, I think it was Painless who had two X52's which went faulty before switching to a MSFFB stick. Anyhoo, I've been pretty happy with the performance of mine, but the sidewinder rocks! Jabo
  2. During my time with the DDz, I've gone from a Saitek Cyborg 3D to the X52 Pro and now the Sidewinder 2 (although I'm still using the X52 throttle). While I love the X52 for it's myriad of buttons and things and being well put-together, the Sidewinder is edging it at the moment. I REALLY like force-feedback. Once the button box is built and I've got the facilities built into it that I miss from the X52 then I'll be happy (for a while). Jabo P.S. Neither of the old sticks failed, in fact I think the Cyborg went to Australia!
  3. I've not noticed this Arthur but I suspect the drop in framerates is due to more work having to be done to show the engine problems (flames, oil etc) and would certainly explain why they shoot back up again when the problem is resolved. Currently I'm running little other than 100% mixture on the Spit but I've not really tried much high altitiude stuff. Ditto with the bombers, bear in mind that the game is not fully optimised for multi-core processors (yet) and as such the additional load caused by having to display other objects moving independantly of AND relative to the position of your aircraft when they all have additional levels of animation and general detail perhaps it's not that suprising that the frame rates can drop dramatically in combat Don't forget that we're almost all running uber machines for 1946 due to it being years old, but those same machines (for the most part) a) aren't so hot compared to CloD's requirements and aren't being fully utilised by the software in any case. I hope these little niggles are just a question of time before they're sorted. Jabo
  4. Ah, I hadn't fully understood your point Rog. Sorry about that. Mr Krieger - you might have more luck on ebay, I recently paid just over $50 for a new one from there.
  5. The problem I have Rog is that when flying, I get situations where becuase my grip has shifted the stick suddenly stops feeding back becuase the sensor believes I have taken my hand off the stick. Unfortunately I am still applying pressure to the stick which suddenly goes to full deflection and therefore I get a massive control input which often leads to a more serious problem.
  6. Good call GK - I feel a little poorly now. Jabo
  7. Ditto - bookmarked here too - although I'm trying to find an aircraft it doesn't feature... Jabo
  8. Ah-ha! I didn't know about the sensor on the front of MSFFB stick - It's very annoying to have your stick go linp at the crucial moment just cos you've adjusted your grip I shall be applying some tape forthwith! Jabo

    Got Me A Trojan

Yes, Windows 7 is the way to go, and a reformat will (likely) solve the problem

Keep us posted Tom, I'd completely forgotten about ComboFix since I left P*****d in November but we used to use it all the time. It's regularly updated too so it's a good idea to download it fresh when you want to use it. Jabo

    Got Me A Trojan

Try this, on a clean machine, go here and download ComboFix. Copy it to a memory stick. Boot your machine to safe mode, and run the exe. This little utility has saved many a customers PC from a rebuild. I think it's fab. Jabo
  12. Spoiler? 4th FG P-47 circa 1943
  13. Like Shadrach, I'm in the process of building a switch bay which along with other functions will also have 3 axis trim capability (although not necessarily within the next week) Currently the X52 throttle provides roll and yaw trim with the throttle on the Sidewinder providing pitch Jabo
  14. I should mention that this patch is for the International version only. If you're using the Russian version, you'll need the Russian patch (I don't have a link for this, sorry) and the Maddox dll (ditto). @Jedi - you have the details I think m8? Please post the links up for the guys. Jabo
  15. I don't think it can be locked (unlike, say, the X52), but my plan would be to reassign the rotation axis to the rudder pedals and live with it. Not really a solution... Yes, it works just fine with Win 7, but the software that ships with the stick for programming the buttons etc doesn't so you only use the drivers that Win 7 ships with (not the stick's own) . Fortunately, both 1946 and CloD accept direct joystick inupts for control assignment so it's not desperate. The Sidewinder 2 only has one hat switch. If you're talking about the X52 I think the hat switch is the top one, but as you can reassign them both it doesn't really matter. Is this for controlling the views? Jabo
  16. Noticed on the Fighter Collection blog this evening that their P-47 is all masked up ready for the paint shop. Will it be ready for Legends? They've only got 63 days! Fighter Collection blog Jabo
  17. Patch has been uploaded to the Vault Jabo

    Videos Won't Play

Don't know if this makes much difference Pook, but are the games installing into the 'Program Files (x86)' folder or 'Program Files'. If they're 32-bit they need to be in the x86 folder. Better yet, like we do with IL-2, install them to folders outside the windows standard ones. Jabo

Have you tried running the games in compatibility mode? Also, I would try right-clicking the icon and selecting 'run as Administrator' sometimes that gets around programs that don't like 64 bit windows (I managed to get Lotus 123 (remember this?) to run on a Windows 7 machine by doing exactly that)
  20. Hooray! Another campaign from FB, and centered around one of my favourite squadrons too! Really looking forward to this Kev. Off now to dig out Kingcombe's book. Jabo
  21. As far as I know m8, there's no problem with having more than 1 stick installed in Windows. You just need to ensure that the axes in-game are mapped to the correct controller. As I'm also going to be using the throttle component of my X52, I intend to map the throttle slider on the MSFFB to a separate control (probably pitch trim) after all, the computer and game have no awareness that this input is 'supposed' to be the throttle, so you could map it to whatever you like. My current thinking having done a little research is to use a BU0836A joystick controller board and run the following on an external panel. Magnetos x8 - (Thinking ahead to 4 engines!) - Throw Switches Fuel Cocks x4 - (Ditto) - 3 posn Rotary Switches Nav, Landing and Cockpit lights plus Gunsight Illumination - Switches Pitch, Roll and Yaw Trim on sliders (Free single rtation pots) First step will probably be a proof of concept just for the lighting (I know, I'm a coward - lol) Jabo
  22. Also going to build a panel with switches for magnetos etc once I can work the circuitry out Jabo
  23. I think I'm going to follow fb's lead, although I have an old joystick to butcher for the button bay
