  1. I used Spyware Doctor for a year and found it to be a good program. It has realtime protection which can be a good thing, but does use up CPU space. If you are going to go with a payware program, you could do worse. That said, there are plenty of freeware programs that do the job just as well. I use a combo of Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware now. Not much gets by them. Every once in a while I'll pop over to http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan/ and run a scan. The only thing I don't like is that I have to fire up IE to run it. (Makes me feel so dirty). It takes a while to do it's thing, but is very thorough. It'll even dig stuff out of System Restore if you're one of the few that hasn't yet disabled it. Hope this helps, Freelancer
  2. LMAO...Go ahead...I dare ya!! No... I double-dog dare ya
  3. Allrighty then, I'll go for the change sometime after SS&S night. No sense adding to doubletaps already full plate.
  4. I've had Freelancer for a few years now. Here are a few sigs I've gone through. Then I found a cool font and while fooling around, came up with this one So, now I want to change my name to Shadow. I've established myself as Shadow on a few forums now and am slowly easing into my new persona. Question is; would it be bad etiquette to change my sig in an already established forum? Say, here for instance? I'd change it at the zoo but then I lose my 700 posts and will look like a total n00b again. I'll get even less respect than I do now  Thanks, Freelancer/Shadow

  6. I should check this forum more often. Here I spent the last four hours trying to get this right: when I could have been having a nice evening of online mayhem. Sheesh :?
  7. Holy Smokes, doubletap! Nice work :thumbleft: After reading the manual, I wanna jump in NOW! Damn, I don't know who I'll have to blow to get that day off work, but I'll be there ~S~ Freelancer
  8. Hi BG, I like those upload speeds! Any idea if your carrier is available down here in the Big Smoke?

    warclouds

I'm completely comfortable with no icons. In fact I prefer it that way. But what I can't live without is my little white plane on the map. Even with my compass rose I'm lost in under two minutes on most maps without my little buddy enabled to tell me where I am. When flying in the online wars, I form up with the guy ahead of me and hope his pathfinding is better than mine :?

    Wed Night

I'm not sure that last night was a difinitive test. But it sure seemed to run a lot smoother with everyone at 56k. Freelancer
  11. And I thought I was the only one! My kids are starting to think I have some sort of motor skill disfunction. Even caught myself doing it while playing Oblivion the other day. Or when I'm watching a track and can't figure out why I'm not panning when I should be.

While I enjoy the settings on Warclouds, I'm just not all over the plane set. It never seems to change no matter what map is up. The regular pilots there are logging in a huge amount of hours and are excellent gamers, but not nessessarily good pilots. By this I mean they know how to eke every bit of performance out of the game. Trim on a slider, 109 prop pitch exploit, flying 'in the red' for extended periods, etc. While in my mind these things are not cheats, they are also not realistic piloting skills. I much prefer trying to fly my plane in a somewhat normal manner and living with the consequences rather than looking for quirks in the programming to take advantage of. A df server is all about stats, period. You will see conga lines of shoulder shooting planes trying to get the last bullet into a smoking dead pilots ride for that all important 100 points. Then hit the deck race for an airfield and bang it down for the points. Repeat over and over again and you will quickly become tired of it. You will finally mange to get a plane flaming and he'll disco rather than have being shot down show up in his stats. Sorry, but I've been there, done that, and except for gunnery practice, I pretty much stay off DF servers in general and Warclouds in particular. Freelancer
  13. The more live players the better, to my way of thinking. That said, I ended up sightseeing for the most part last evening as the lag was really bad for me. Every time I patiently set up a shot I would get warp. Even trying to stay in formation became frustrating. My network settings were at cable/xDSL so that may have been the problem. I have now changed to 56k. As for comms, I noticed not everyone uses the Push-to-Talk option. It can be a little distracting hearing every burp, fart and phone call when there is such an easy fix. As nice as it is to admire each others skins, it does use a lot of bandwidth to have them on. And with icons enabled there is no real need. I also think that, as it is the exception rather that the rule to see that many players on, there is no need for a drastic knee-jerk solution. There is plenty of time to get these little wrinkles worked out before 20 player evenings become the norm. And I look forward to the time when 20 player nights are standard. Cheers, Freelancer
  14. Hi Arsenal, I'm going to D/L it anyway, so I can upload it to Usendit for you. Let me know. BTW, torrents can take a loooong time to complete, so don't hold your breath. Freelancer
  15. Well Done! Checked out the site. Nice place. I uploaded a skin (under my top secret skinning name  ) I upload a few more as I finish them. Once again, congrats, Freelancer
  16. Well, I guess that's that then. Thanks Beebop for the info, but the track is already made. Just wondered if there was a way to fancy it up a little.
  17. Hi I'm in the process of making a little clip. What I would like to know is if there is a way to remove icons from an .ntrk? Alternately, as I know you can do it in a .trk file, is it possible to convert, somehow, the .ntrk to a .trk? I'm a movie makin' noob, so no big words, please  Thanks, Freelancer
  18. Any time you have a server that keeps stats, you are going to have unscrupulous (can we install a spell check in the forum, please) players looking for an 'edge'. Human nature. I can assure you that if if the kennel started saving points, there would be the same thing happening here. One of the reasons I enjoy this squad and the mighty 58th with whom I also fly is this very thing. No stats means no need to look good on the leader board. No worrying about K/D ratios, Hit %ages, etc means no need for most of the common cheats (speed hacks, lag cheats) or unsportsman like behavior (kill stealing, shoulder shooting). People will start to 'lone wolf' if there is a stat page. Co-ops will not be so co-operative then:-( It's nice to play on a server with people I've come to have some respect for. If I see a UFO, I can be sure it's just lag and if I'm being shoulder shot I can be sure it's prolly my AI wingman. So, I propose that any future thoughts of having a stats page be quickly quashed so that we can keep this a gentlemans squad. Problem solved before it starts. Freelancer out.
  19. Here is the serious stuff... Aimbots... for FB I can upload the track if anyone wants, but this copy/paste of the readme should tell you all you need to know: The file TrueAim_Cheat.ntrk demonstrates how effectively the new TrueAim Cheatcode for IL-2 works. As you will see, I've started with a single P-40, against two Me 109 F4, three Me 110 G2 and a sixpack of Opel Blitz Trucks. First of all let me tell you that the TrueAim works best with caliber .50. Get a plane with as much guns as you can. Late P-51, Corsair, F4-U and P-47 are most preferrable. The amazing thing about TrueAim is that you can configure it IN FLIGHT, selecting your preffered hitzone. In case of an admin showing up, you can even switch it off instantly to avoid unnecesarry trouble. First victim: 109 #2. Setting: Critical Wing-Hit. First blow misses the nodepoint of the wingstructure for a few inches, but the second one sends the 109 down. Second victim: Bf109 #1. Setting: Critical Tank-Hit. Right on the first burst, the tank is set on fire, one second later it goes off. This setting is most suitable for guaranteed Pilot kills. So you can whipe away enemy resistance pretty easily. Coming to the Me 110, you will recognize the only disadvantage of TrueAim: It doesn't work so well in head ons. This is because of the great amounts of lead that you have to pull. So take your time, and cream their asses rather than their heads. ;-) Third victim: 110 #2. Setting: Critical Wing-Hit plus Anti-Admin. This feature is beta still, so you won't find it on the current releases. It allows you to misfire some shots, so it doesn't look that suspicious. Anyway, the 110 is doomed. Fourth victim: 110 #3. Setting: TrueAim OFF. Here you can see how easily you can swap off TrueAim in case of an Admin being nearby. The 110 takes major hits, but only loses a landing wheel (LOL!) and some oil. On the next approach, i switch back to TrueAim, selecting Critical Motor hit. The result is quite impressive on the 110, because the motor nodepoints are almost identical with the wing nodepoints, so you get a cut-off wing along with a burning motor pretty often. Fifth victim: 110 #1. Setting: Critical Fuselage-Hit. Take note that extreme angles between the flight paths are bad for TrueAim. Settle down behind your enemy, before you blow him. Fuselage is a rather longlasting target, especially on bigger planes. They've got plenty of nodepoints, which have to be taken out one by one. Also take note, that you aren't safe from gunners' fire! Last victims: Ground targets. One thing to remember is, that the tool needs some time to settle on ground targets, because there are so many different types of them. Switch to Critical Ground Hit, wait for TrueAim to settle on the targets and then let them have it! Groups of similar targets are easily destroyed, because TrueAim can jump from one object to the next while you're firing. Have fun! Have fun, indeed. Don't know if I much like this. Freelancer

  22. Hi sged First off, I should say how much I like your designs. I spent a lot of time admiring them while I was dead the last time you were hosting a game I was in. Those wing bumps can be a real pain for skinners. I don't know the Spit void all that well to say with authority but usually things like that are a spot somewhere that is mirrored for all the bumps. Here is a perfect example on a B-239. The only place on the skin I put the black colour is under "A", yet it's mirrored in four other spots on the two wings. Because of this I had to change my original cammo scheme. Sometimes I have to wonder at the original designers of some of these skins. After you spend some time with more of the voids you will discover all kinds of annoying little glitches. Some skinners simply ignore them and others end up having to rethink their design to take them into account. Either way a PITA! Freelancer
  23. Hi all, A question: I like taking screen shots and I like using Fraps to do it with as there is more flexibility that the built in. In Fraps you have the option of saving your pics as BMP, JPG or PNG. What I'm wondering is, are there major differences in quality between these different compressions? As a rule I usually save as a Bmp and convert to jpeg for the web. I personally don't find much loss in this method, but, alas... my eyes are not those of a younger man and I may just be not noticing. In fact, I don't see much difference between a jpeg and a gif aside from maybe some very minor pixelation in the gif. Any advice in this would be appreciated, Freelancer
  24. A question. As I've remapped all my keys and F6 is now a Fraps control, can someone tell me what F6 is actually used for? And why it is considered a bad thing? Thanks, Freelancer
  25. My view: Ones mans vultching is another mans straffing. I enjoy dodging flack and taking out aircraft on the ground. It also teaches the enemy to fly CAP and cover thier airbase. As for externals. I never use 'em unless I'm dead and bored. That said, if it's a D/F server you don't need to stay dead so there is no real need for them.
