That error means the HDD on it's way out, usually, and as GEC said there are utilities available that will test and report the drive for you. What make/model is the Drive Glenn (you can get this info from device manager under the disk drives bit). WD and Seagate/Maxtor do a drive fitness utility that runs within windows. You may find the disk is still under warranty too, Maxtor/Seagate are 3 or 5 years..you can usually look up the warranty status on their sites.

memory would be my first check too. But just to throw this in there: My eldest daughters PC started acting funny, mouse would not respond even though laser was illuminated. Swapped out mobo in the end, all seemed good then same old mouse issue. She asked for help and I smartly (well for me any way after a day at work) after an hour or so went to check it, picked up mouse to see if I could get a response and promptly dropped it. It was really hot, a Logitech mouse, it had suffered some sort of short that dragged the whole system down. Binned it, replaced it and all has been well since...weird or what?

I'm uploading part 4 now Jim, had BSODs with my Windows 7 install (an update or ZoneAlarm is knocking it down every 30 mins or so ) so have had to revert to Vista.. I will do a checksum and compare the torrent with what I downloaded from the vault

You have to install the drivers as admin with 7 (right click the setup file and select 'run as administrator'). Runs good as gold for me

Odd...I have found the last 2 CATs (if not 3) have worked flawlessly with Win 7 and my 4870, on two systems.. What card do you have BA?

IL2 does not put anything in the application data folder.. What it does do is create an install record in c:\program files\InstallShield Installation Information\ - and it is this that the installer looks to and will blank out the 'Install' option if it finds a record of a previous install there. The installer clean up utility Jim posted above will cure this, but use with care

Patch your copy, then when done use explorer and navigate to the folder with the copy, find and select (left click once only) the IL2FB.exe file, then right click and select 'Send to .. Desktop as shortcut' This will place the shortcut on your desktop, now find said shortcut on desktop and rename it to, say, IL2 4.09 Final, and you are done.

Did you log on elsewhere Carl? Or perhaps your IP has recently refreshed... The system updates your IP every 30 mins, so if you log on at a m8's house then return home you will need to logon, then wait for 30 mins before the system picks up. You should be good to go now, unless you logged on elsewhere or you ISP has changed your IP again..

Did a quick test, switched to 4.09 clean, installed patch and it runs perfectly If you do this remember to copy files.sfs from main folder to: main folder\_Game Switchers\4.09 Mods OFF (Original) to be able to switch back and forth again.

Ooops m8, the exe will be for the 4.09, and should not have copy protection (IL2 should run without DVD in...did you back up the exe first? If not I have attached the 4.09b exe..should help.

You have registry and/or install shield remnants the installer is picking up, correctly identifying the game has previously been installed. Copy (not cut 'n paste) the folders back to Program Files, then control panel -> add/remove software and un-install. Or get the install clean up utility..can't remember what
