  4. The B1 entered service in 1956. Along the way they had upgrades to produce the B1A. These had different wings(?), electronic counter measures and capability of in-flight refuelling and uprated engines. In 1960 the B2 entered service with all the changes the B1A had plus different, more powerful engines and lots of detail differences to accommodate them. They also had a great deal of radio and nav equipment updates. As Soviet missile and fighter development advanced the Vulcan's operational profile was changed in the mid-sixties to a low level attack and B2 airframes were strengthened to reflect this. As our primary nuclear deterent was about to change to submarine launched Polaris missiles it was judged not cost effective to upgrade B1 aircraft to low level work and they were all withdrawn by the late sixties. When I was at school we had a maths teacher who had been a v-bomber navigator in the RAF and he could occasionally be persuaded to talk about it. For all bomber crews, whether they were British, American or Soviet, nuclear war was a one way trip. No one had the range to return home after bombing their enemies major cities. The Vulcan's fuel use at extreme ranges in combat use was apparently a bit of a mystery and it was generally accepted that the Vulcan force would run out of juice somewhere over western Poland or East Germany on the way back. There was some debate over whether they'd get a better reception from the Poles or the Stasi....
  5. Last time I checked you still were 😁 Nice clip there of the two Vulcans 👍 I didn't even know there were two variants. Were both of them in service or just the Mk2?

  12. I was Pm'd by the above in IL2 forums to say thank you for my Tank Range practice mission he had just located (that takes me back!) and very much enjoyed. I told him about the IL2 campaign that is about to start and to drop by and check us out.

  13. @DD_Fenrir - I will try these settings? With them not forced people could turn them off with LShift+F10 I believe?
  14. Indeed. Trying to spot that damn chopper (that shot me down) against the forest was a real struggle in VR!
  15. Hi Col. The guys are referring to the visibilty icons in the 3D environment, rather than the F10 map symbols.
  16. The settings at the moment are Allied only. I will change them to "Fog of War"
  17. I concur! It's a trifle tricky with me goggles without iconage
  18. Wow what a wonderful memory BB.
  19. The 352nd have agreed to remove bombs from fighters. Proposed start date is 22nd of June. It will be mods on but the only mods we will use are icon mod and a flag mod that I will post later. Unfortunately I have family business I have to do so I will miss this Sunday and next Tuesday so won't be able to discuss this or plan much prior to kickoff. Can we have a mission leader volunteer for the first mission please to coordinate who is flying, who is tanking and plan of action? I will communicate info to him. I will also start a planning thread in the dangerdogz private forum for any further information and discussion.
  20. corespondance with deacon regarding the mission Hi Deacon Here are a few comments from the guys, just minor points as all are excited to try this out. 1) What icons do you propose using? We really had difficulty spotting tanks with icons off 2) Are there any mods we would need 3) Are bridges able to be knocked out or have you made them indestructable 4) We propose that only the bombers take bombs not P-51 or 109 as P-51 can take 2 bombs to 109s 1 5) We propose that the P-51 does not use 150 grade fuel 6) How many of your squad that would be on our side would drive tanks? and how many would prefer flying ?, just so we know roughly what to plan. To answer most of your questions: 1) As to icons, if you wish them on, no problem. we tested the mission with no icons but its no problem to allow our server to have them on. 2) I don't believe we used any mods but I will check. No mods means no conflicts and I believe I did that to make sure the mission runs fine. Our server will be like your with mods on but I didn't use mods in this mission of A&S. 3) Any bridges that you need to go over along the direct roadway or railway from one flag to the next ARE destructible. Once destroyed the roadway bridge gets reconstructed in 15 minutes while the railway bridge takes 20 minutes. 4) I will check with my guys as to not allowing either the P51 or the 109 to carry bombs. That's simple to arrange in the mission. 5) Again I will check with my guys as to NOT allowing the P51 to use 150 fuel. 6) As to the number of our members that would drive/fly with you - when we tested there were four guys one of which only flew while the other three did both depending upon where or when the circumstances dictated what needed to be done. Depending upon how many of you guys commit to the mission will depend upon how many of my guys will join you. We want to keep the sides as equal as possible. As I said only one of my guys only flies in these missions and he is excellent. Maybe that's why he only wants to fly. BUT I don't know if he is available for the sunday times of 2100 hours GMT since he is on the West coast of the USA. He hasn't been flying in your sunday sessions with us due to a conflict in real life. But if he has a chance to stick it to my Command Staff by flying with you, he might take it. We have great fun teasing each other about it. Feel free to comment and I will pass these on
  21. Would it be possible to put icons on for at least one of the foothold campaigns to help an old man with dodgy eyes 🤓
  22. I was asked last night about the phantom skins I used so have put them here 892_NAS_001.zipRAF_111_Sqn_FG1_XV574_-_by_Fish.zip

  23. It really is a beautiful beast isn't it? Stunning restoration. I'd love to see this at a show over here, it's been a good 10 years since we've heard a Daimler Benz in these shores. If you can get your hands on a copy, I'd recommend the inaugural Vintage Aviation Echo (https://www.vaemag.com/preview-volume-i). Not only is it a wonderful publication, but one of the chapters is dedicated to Rote 12's restoration and test flight schedule, written by the pilot you see, renowned moustachioed RAF officer and warbird legend, Flt Lt Charlie Brown. Fun fact: Both Fenrir and I flew with this gentleman in a Boeing Stearman many many years ago as RAF cadets on warm summer's evening as a reward for marshalling at an airshow. Ahhh memories.
