Jediteo
Ljungbyhed? Sure, if I can I will. Sounds like a lot of fun. My dad probably would like to come along, he hasn't seen a Draken since he used to work on them in the 70's. Might be able to get the Säve one, quite a bit to drive though. Swedish pilot from Ljungbyhed dies when trying to land his Supermarine Spitfire MkXVIII in Norway. Seems to be a faulty undercarrige. A photographer noticed that the left gear was´nt fully retracted when the Spit left Stockholm earlier that day. On this pic thogh it looks like both wheels are fully out. Kimosabi
Witnesses did report that the aircraft veered to the left after touchdown so it could well have been som problems with that left gear. Depends on when he saw that left gear hangin though since both gears rarely raised 100% simoultaneously. Another witness said that he touched down very long, so long he was wondering if he'd break off and go around.
Sweper
Bertil Gerhardt was 68 years old. He had over 31000 hours in the air together with 39 years in the Swedish Airforce. Searched his name on Youtube and he flew all kind of aircraft, including the Spit and a P-51 on airshows. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Bertil+Gerhardt&aq=f RIP! Kimosabi
Considering this guys rep sheet I'd bet my head it was mechanical failure. R.I.P ~S~
