dogfighting tips

Dave, thanks for the files. I finally had time to open them up and started printing out a few. I am particularly interested in the one on energy management, as I think that is currently my biggest liability.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone use quick mission builder to practice dogfighting? The reason I ask is that I question whether fighting AI is really worth it. I took a 1944 Mustang against a flight of 1940 or 41 Zeroes to practice boom and zoom, and it just seems they were able to pull crap off which is NOT feasible. Like, they manage to keep pace with me as I run unless I max out my engine, or they climb, and turn and GAIN on me as I do so as well. What seems most ridiculous is they can match my speed AND my climb for the most part if all I am doing is running. Makes it kind of hard to Boom and Zoom if you can't get any distance or height.

I fully realize some of it can be do to me mishandling the airplane, and it is well acknowledged that AI do not blackout of burn out engines, etc. I guess my point is, do they act so unlike human pilots that practicing against them is of real limited use?

I have the same problem with aI - try fighting 3 AI ace hurricanes in a FW190 D or A series - they never blow E and always climb at most efficient- they turn 180 and are on you and gain?!? The trick I found is to turn AWAY from them as they turn towards you and gentlly climb and turn and they will eventually lose E and you can turn to their 6 - but it isnt really like humans- a better way to practice is to use the full misssion builder to create situations-like I did for my guns missions - you can place the bandit in exact height and position relative to you so you can practice different situations and not just head on meets. Or use uberdeamons quick mision generator to do the same - then you can use shift _E s quick mission tuner to tailor things quickly.

all these utilities are on airwarfare

and guide for full mission builder

I still play my guns and revi guns missions a lot as quick practice sessions

Dave,

Interesting you say that because I have noticed that in missions the AI does not seem to be as uber. Why that is, whether its different programming in that situation, or the inability for the AI to concentrate on one target, I can't say.

I guess what should really do is go online to DF servers a bit just to get some human interaction.

I think me E management sucks too DT. I must say I've played a small pilot carrier with the Hurricane and against Ki43's you just dont stand a chance. I've never seen those suckers move so fast online. I know they can move but didnt think they could retain that much energy.

I've also done some QMB stuff.. I tend to go against G2's with a Spit VIII CW and they don't seem to pull the same crap. I normally go against 3 or 4 and have better than average success. I think you are on the right track where AI are concerned and lots of targets.

You should watch a ntrack of ground targets. They do strange things that they dont do when you are actually playing live!! Strange!!!
