anti Virus software (minimal)

I got me a shiny new system that will only be connected to IL2 servers 90% of the time. (I have a different machine for surfing)

Are there any suggestions out there for a decent Anti Virus that will not cost me $50 ?

AVG is OK for me (as its free but there is a pay for version) but some people swear by McAffee, choose your weapon mate

I've had AVG (Grisoft) for 5 years or better.. Never had a problem.

Avast free is good also.

I've been using Avira AntiVir for more than 12 years now. It's excellent imo.

but since the subscription has terminated I'm thinking about switching to AVG.. Although I still can't fully believe a free program would be as good as a payed program...
